Remarks

People were humble and nice so far my experience. But mostly problems with any government institution is lack of maintenance of college area, the unhygienic environment and the lazy working mentality of people. It kills to inspire young mind that keeping the college area, lab, washrooms etc clean is necessary for health and education both.

Entrance Preview

Vidyasagar College for Women is known for its Zoology department in science background as one of our honoured principal ma'am used to teach Zoology so since that time the education quality of department became very good and popular among students. The merit lists of this college released first and I had my name on first list so went with the first option.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The very much of problem with west bengal board and the universities of west bengal is lack of practical implementation of theoretical knowledge. Their should be a lot more practical implementation of knowledge in terms of internalising any course curriculum whether it is science or arts or commerce.

Internships Opportunities

No, there is no such methods of providing internship opportunities. It was a blunt circle process of education where I paid my college fees and in return college provided me with mostly theoritical, lab based and less practical exposure of knowledge.

Placement Experience

0.5

There are no placements and job opportunities anyone discusses. Our academic structure is absolutely blunt. Our subject curriculum allows the selective number of students to dream of a subject oriented future which requires further studies, it includes MSc and a Ph.D. Now thing is there is n number of other creative professions one can opt for after being Zoology hons graduate. None talks about it or guide for it (as whole education and faculty system is a traditional method based) and students after college pretty much aimlessly run to get admission for either MSc or marriage life (for women).

College Events

2.5

Freshers Welcome programs every year Annual college festival every year Cultural programs and also competition during Rabindrajayanti, 22se srabon, celebration of college foundation day and many more. Nationally celebrating days like 26th January, 15th Aug and many more were celebrated remembering the natioanl duty as Indian citizen etc.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships were only available for students who belong to lower annual income family and SC or ST categories. Which I found very disappointing. There should have been competition on merit basis for scholarships so that quality of education could be promoted. But alas! No such system exists to promote quality education and now situation far worse than before.

Campus Life

2.5

I studied my BSC in morning women college which is why gender ratio was 100% female. Out of our daily college classes we attended seminars and presented once on an unknown topic for first time which was fun. Else among cultural programs singing and dancing competitions were all I saw but my extracurricular is painting so I never got opportunity to participate in any external competition. I missed to have extracurricular excitements of college life.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

I never had to stay in hostels and feed myself on mess foods. College is 30 mins approx distance from my home by bus and I traveled everyday. All I can say is about college canteen foods which I had few times and it is not up to the mark based on hygienic scales.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors were nice to us and we got very nice departmental fresheres program after our joining to collge but we hardly were able to interact with them in college areas as students were mostly individualistic and rest of the like minded people had their own groups.

Exam Structure

Exam structure during graduation 1st and 2nd year was not much hectic but in the final year exam structure was worst of all. 6 papers of theory exams had been scheduled to conduct in a week just one after another with no gaps. That schedule of final exam did harm my health and affected my last two papers performance as because of lack of sleep I was unable to revise night before exams. It was stress and torture to the mind and body.

Admission

The merit lists of selected candidates in respective departments and subjects were declared online on official website of institution. Following that students on first lists were called for presence and admission along with their original documents of certificates. Names were called one by one as per arrangements and after checking of documents selected students proceded with admission and registration.

Faculty

2.5

Faculties were nice and helpful. But not as much professional or technologically updated or advanced in terms of teaching and learning process. There was no uplifting of study methods along with the growing number of degrees. Like class 1 we were again forced to look at that same blackboard and chalk out class notes.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I've always found economics to be really interesting and thats why I choose to persue it. I wanted to dive deep into the actual concepts and workings of the economy and understand how the world works from an economist's point of view. Sadly the curriculam doesnt bridge the gap between theory and real life. It focuses heavily on textbook and not how the world works.

The Physical Chemistry faculties are the best I got, that influenced me to carry forward my research carrier in Physical Chemistry. The curriculum for the Physical and Inorganic chemistry are upto the mark and I felt improvement in teaching style and curriculum is required for Organic Chemistry part. The difficulty of Internal examination can be improved a bit.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would say the course is good but you have to opt for masters and PhD to get a good placement. After bsc there's not any placement. The curriculum was basically practical and theoretical based. But I think it should be more practical so that we can get a job after doing bsc. The teaching method was good I didn't have any problem with that. As it was under Calcutta University so the exam questions were too difficult, sometimes it came out of our syllabus , i think they should change this a little bit .

Course Curriculum Overview:

The syllabus for BSc. Microbiology Hons. was in line with my interests. Few topics like virology, bacteriology, and diversity of the microbial workd are what drew my attention to pick this course. Although there are some portions which one would consider "boring", but I believe every subject has its interesting as well as boring portions. It's seems fair to judge a subject by seeing if the "boring" portions outweigh the "interesting" parts or not.

Course Curriculum Overview:

In terms of relevance and comprehensiveness of the course curriculum, my rating is solid 4.1 out of 5. Because it offers a variety of courses like compulsory english, environmental science, constitution values of India, Inter Disciplinary Courses where one can opt for a variety of subjects which change along with the course proceeds or semester changes. Not only that two major papers and one minor paper are present throughout the semester. As a student we should be well aware of our country and its law as well as how we can keep our environment healthy followed by sustainable development.
