Course Curriculum Overview

3

Since i loved Geology from the UG days I opt Geology for my Master's also. Due to limited facilities in laboratory, we dont get that much practical knowledge apart from mineralogy, paleontology, petrology, ore geology etc. However, we do get much practical knowledge from various internships and by the project work we do in our academic year. As for the improvement of the course curriculum, if they can give more practical based classes instead of focusing more on the theoretical part it will be more helpful for thr students who are interested in Geology. The exams are very difficult and we have to write too much always in the end semester exams. So, if they can make the questions from essay-type to multiple-choice questions that are more intriguing students will read more and will pass with flying colors.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Since my field focus more on research i had some wonderful experience with my internship and project works. I did my internship at CGWB Trivandrum which helped me to get to know more about hydrogeology and the internship i did at Madras University on Micropalaeontology helped me a lot on my studies as a geology student .

Fees and Financial Aid

The Academic fees are more or less affordable but the increasing fees of hostels and messes is making the students suffer from financial instability. Since most of the students come from middle-class family, every time increasing hostel and mess fees make them difficult to pay. The acamedic fee per annum vary upto 21000 to 24000 while for a month we are giving 14000 rupees for hostel and mess while the mess food is horrible making the students sick and they are forced to eat from the outside and that will be increrasing their personal expense apart from the fee and all. NSP scholarships are given to the students like single girl child scholarship, scholarship for first rank holders etc. but students have to pay all the fee first and then only they will get the signature from the competent authority for the scholarship grant.

Campus Life

4.5

Overall Campus life is incredible since we are able to mingle with students from different states , which is good since that will lead to the gaining of knowledge about the cultural diversity of our country. Since the students are more broad-minded and progressive, nobody will feel insecure or inferior to anyone here and everyone supports the vulnerable like the LGBTQ community, PWD category, etc. The authority tries very hard to conduct as much as international conferences and all but it is less when we are talking about a Central University here. Every year the University conducts an annual sports and arts fest called Ankur and that is a spectacular event. Along with that, every department is free to do any kind of innovative, culture rich and more informative fest and conferences to improve the knowledge of students and give them some enjoyment from their stress-filled life. But for improving the students mental health and all the authority must take more initiative.

Hostel Facilities

0.5

Hostel facility is very poor according to me since this is a Central University. They provide bunker kinda beds to students and a table and chair along with a cupboard to the students those who are staying in the hostel. But nowadays the newly admitted students have to wait more for their seniors to vacate their rooms, cupboards ana all since there is no fund ; the competent authority says. The mess service very bad and everyday students get worms from their food and they dont provide adequate ptotein rich food and other suppliments. And they dont even provide the evening tea for the students eventhough they get a hefty amount each year from the students in the form of mess fee. Since the University is located in a rural village there is other facility other than the hostels for the students who come from far places adnd if they decide to live outside of the campus they have to find extra amount for their travel expense that is about 60 rupees to one side only which is very difficult .

Admission

The admission procedure was nice. The student must be a geology graduate to apply for a Master's in Geology. however, I was an Integrated student at Central University of Karnataka who secured admission in 2019. The application form and other details will be on the official website of NTA which conducts CUET UG and PG exams as per the rules. The examination will be based on your knowledge of basic English, simple maths, Logical Thinking, and your knowledge of current affairs. In the case of admission procedure, the University should ensure a proper student committee devoid of any political influence so that it will be accessible to all candidates and will be devoid of personal political views

Food and nutrition articles in newspaper made me to take this course. As it had full scope in that time. Actually curriculum is very poor in preparing us for real world application. Practical session must include more of industrial visits and projects related to industry. We had enough time to study .

Hence this university is reputed one in Karnataka.. i choose this one and I got the seat and I am very happy for this. The teaching methods are really good but it depends on particular lecturers, how they teach .. For main sem exam the time was around 3 hours for 70 marks and it was moderate and can be manageable

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is fairly distributed among the 2 years. The first year broadly covers the course work, and learning of the laboratory techniques. Followed by a mini project and a major project under a professor of interest. Stem cell biology always intrigued me and this course offered exactly what I want. The curriculum focuses on training students very rigorously to make them fit for harsh conditions and situations in the real research world.
