My experience at XLRI Jamshedpur

My dream to pursue an MBA from one of the top B-Schools in the country came true when I got an admission offer from XLRI Jamshedpur. The faculty here are highly knowledgeable in their respective domains with multiple research papers published in peer-reviewed journals. The teaching method is mostly traditional type with lectures based on PPTs and case study analysis. Most profs are highly strict in their evaluations. Quizzes are held at regular intervals and they carry significant weightage as well. There are 3 terms held each year, each term consisting of 7-8 subjects.

There are more than 100 companies that come for the internship hiring with the highest stipend offered last year being 3.5 lakh per month. Companies from various domains come from hiring be it consulting, finance, gen man, IT, ops, etc.

XLRI provides both SIP and Final placement opportunities. The SIP process begins in the month of September and the final placements during the months of Dec-Feb. 100 percent of the students get placed. The highest stipend for the SIP 2024 was 3.5 lakh per month, the average being 1.5 lakh+.

The course fee is roughly around 28-30 lakhs for 2 years. During admission, we have to pay the first installment of 10 lakhs approx and the 2nd installment of 5 lakhs approx later during the first year. The remaining fee is to be paid during the 2nd year. There are multiple scholarships available mostly being need-based that are sponsored by companies like TATA, Aditya Birla Group, and many others. Each scholarship has its own application process. The college provides assistance in Summer Internship Placements and Final Placements. Companies from various domains like consultancy, finance, general management, etc come for hiring. I secured my SIP at Bajaj Auto with a stipend of 2 lakh per month for 2 months

XLRI Jamshedpur's major annual fests are the EV and MAXI Fair. There are many student-run committees each having their own fests. The classrooms are fully airconditioned and all necessary amenities are provided. The library has ample books needed for the course.

All students of XLRI mandatorily need to opt for hostels. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. The rooms and mess food are decent. The mess charges are quite reasonable. Apart from that, there are multiple canteens that are open till night.

XLRI takes admission through the XAT examination followed by a GDPI. The overall cutoff for XAT is roughly around 95 percentile. This cutoff is the minimum eligibility for qualifying for the GDPI. The application fee is around 2000 INR and the form generally opens from June-July until the first week of December and the exam is held in the first week of January. Results are declared in January itself and the GDPI process begins from mid-February onwards. The final shortlist is declared in mid-April. Currently, there is no reservation system for admission to XLRI

In our admission process, there was no GD conducted and there was only PI. The interview was mainly based on the resume, the SOP submitted, relevant work ex if any, and general questions. It mainly depends on the panel that the candidate faces. XLRI's interview is considered one of the hardest ones to crack. The interview can be a stress interview type to check the student's confidence and ability to handle stressful situations. So it is important to prepare for all relevant topics based on one's resume and keep oneself updated with all current topics. SOP needs to filled with utmost importance as the panelists often grill the candidate based on the answers written
