Course Curriculum Overview
IIT Kharagpur is one of India's most prestigious engineering colleges and getting admissioned in a course here is like a dream. The environment, infrastructure and facilities here are amazing. There are around 400 highly qualified PhD holder professors teaching around 12000 students. The professors here are regularly active in research projects. Every professor has their own unique way of teaching. In one semester there are two main exams, the mid-semester exams which consist of 30% of the total marks and the end-semester exams which consist of 50% of total marks. 20% marks are carried by internal assessments done before mid-semester and end-semester exams. The exams are relatively tougher than that of other engineering colleges but a little hardwork can get you good grades.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies come to give in-campus internships to students. College conducts exams and then the respective companies conduct their exams and interviews and shortlist students who get internship. They are given a very high stipend also.
Placement Experience
For campus placements students generally become eligible in 7th semester. More than 200 companies have visited and around 1600 offers have been made. Highest package this year was 1.69 Cr and the average package is around 18L. Nearly all the students who sit in campus placements get a job. I have a plan to secure a high pay job after getting the degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees per semester is around 100000, mess charges are around 10000, hostel fees is around 10000 and the remaining infrastructure, library, etc charges round up the total semester fees to 150000. There are provisions of making requests under specific criteria to reduce the fees.
Campus Life
The annual fest Spring Fest (SF) happens in the month of January and Asia's largest Tech fest Kshitij also happens in the month of January at IIT Kharagpur. The library here is Asia's largest and contains over 400000 books and a very large study area for students. In the months of exams, the library is open 24 hours a day, other times it is open from 8 a.m. to 12 midnight everyday of the week. The classrooms are equipped with all the modern technologies and are very spacious. Every single known sport is available here for students. Every hostel has their own cricket, volleyball, basketball, badminton, etc grounds and there is Technology Student's Gymkhana where all the sport facilities are available. There are many clubs run by students of IIT Kharagpur, some famous clubs are Business Club, 180 Degrees Consultancy, Entrepreneurship Cell, Student welfare group, etc.
Hostel Facilities
In hostel rooms, students are provided a bed, a study table and a cupboard. The food quality of every Hostel is good. Hostel prices are really low so they are affordable. The college announces the alloted hostel and students go to the hostel and can easily get their rooms alloted.
Admission
For getting admitted in IIT Kharagpur, a person has to clear Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. This year the cutoff for IITs was 99 marks out of 360 for general category. After the examination, JOSAA is a counseling body that does the further processes and students have to register there and give the preference order of the colleges and courses they want. The fees for JOSAA counseling is ?0. They take ?40000 for your seat confirmation but later this money is reduced from your college feed. The admission process is smooth, there are two mock counseling rounds held so that students know prehand which college they might get and change their preferences accordingly. After the college is allocated, the students need to submit all the documents offline at the college just before the beginning of semester.
