Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to study Statistics. I applied to most of the colleges offering Stats. Since my marks were great in Class 12, I was admitted to Asutosh College. We have 70 students and there are 6 faculty members. 5 of them are PhD holders and one has done. Some teachers are great. You love their teaching methods and teaching style. They explain concepts very well. Some teachers are quite boring as they only come and dictate from the notebooks. Asutosh College is affiliated with Calcutta University. So every semester happens on time. CU is one of the toughest universities in the country. It is very difficult to pass, let alone good marks. If you don't study it's going to be a nightmare for you. As always nothing is difficult. If you give enough time to your studies throughout the entire semester, you'll definitely pass. But the concepts you learn help you in the near future and keep you ahead of other students from other colleges.
Fees and Financial Aid
As it is a government college, the fee structure is affordable. Other general courses are even less costly. Then there are scholarships like Swami Vivekananda, Oasis, etc. I am sure about the financial assistance as I did not need it. I'm pretty sure there will be some assistance for the needy. There are no Job opportunities at the undergrad level.
Campus Life
Udaan, the annual fest of Asutosh College, is organized in December-January. There are lots of extracurricular activities happening throughout the year. From sports like cricket, football, badminton, and athletics to indoor activities like carrom, chess and table tennis. Other than that we have got creative competitions from essay writing to wall painting, t-shirt painting, and many more exciting competitions. The classrooms are clean. Only they are not smart. We have blackboards. We have got 3 libraries with tons of books and journals. We have clubs for various activities. There's a page on Facebook, e-stat-us, which is run by students of statistics.
Admission
You should have taken Mathematics/Statistics in Class 12 and must have scored more than 55 percent. Asutosh College is affiliated to Calcutta University and is the best college to offer Statistics under Calcutta University. Admission starts after the class 12 results are declared and ends in August. Admission is made based on merit. When I took admission, there were no application fees. You can fill out the application form online. The session starts around September. I think the admission process is great. Only the website can be a bit annoying sometimes and I think most colleges have poor websites.
