Course Curriculum Overview
MBBS is one of the vastest courses at the undergraduate level. I have always wanted to make people happy and healthy, that's why I chose to become a doctor. There are 10-15 faculties in every department and the batch strength is 200. So the ratio is about 1:13. All the facilities are MD or MS. Some have super specializations like DM or MCh. Teaching methods include offline and online both along with live patient to students interaction, practicals, PPT mode, and project assignment. There are 9-semester exams and 4 professional exams in the total MBBS curriculum along with numerous short-term exams. 50% is the passing criterion and is really difficult to pass. Students have to go through a lot of studies in order to cross this passing barrier. It gives me immense pleasure when I see someone going home with a smile after being treated for the illness.
Internships Opportunities
Our college organizes internships for 100% of students after passing the final MBBS exam. This is a paid internship where interns are paid monthly 30,000/- by the government of West Bengal. This is a mandatory course where maximum exposure to patients and a chance to gain clinical knowledge and apply skills reach a high level.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are about 9800/- per year. After passing MBBS, doctors can apply for government services or practice in private clinics, or get a chance to a higher specialty. In govt college, the fees are not that high but books are expensive.
Campus Life
Social and overall student life is very charming. "SYNAPSE" is our annual cultural festival. It is usually conducted in the month of November. Our college has the biggest library among all the medical colleges in West Bengal. It has a huge collection of medical books and journals on every subject. Our college organizes many events in such a manner so that everyone can show and uplift their talent, like, singing, dancing, drawing, anchoring, running, online gaming, basketball, cricket, football match, puzzle solving, and many more. We have different cultural and social groups for each and every individual event mentioned above.
Admission
I got admission by clearing NEET - UG exam in 2019. Anyone who had passed class 12 board exams with physics, chemistry, biology, and English can apply for the exam. This is the all-INDIA level medical entrance exam. Application forms can be found on the internet, on the official website of NTA. Fees for the general category were 1600/- and for ST, SC, and OBC, it was 900/- in 2023. There are reservation benefits present. The cut-off goes a lot lower for the students who have reservations. As far as improvement is concerned, I want to see this reservation system to be abolished from every section of India. And question paper settings, the process of result declaration, and counseling should be more appropriate.
