Remarks
Like I said earlier, the college is decent but is not too good. If you can look after yourself and don't need to depend on good tuition, then it's alright for you to study here. But if you are lazy and always rely on good teaching skills of the teacher to understand stuff, then this college will be a nightmare for him/her. Placements offered is decent enough. So go ahead and study at this college if you want to study at any private college.
Entrance Preview
I had taken WBJEE, and I had secured a rank of 9100 in that exam. I had taken the exam in 2011 and that time this was one of the best private colleges in Kolkata which offered decent placements. And I had also heard good things about the Electrical Engineering dept of this college, so I opted for this.
Internships Opportunities
The college asks us to find an internship on our own and does not help us in any way regarding that. In the internship we don't get any remuneration/stipend.
Placement Experience
Companies like CTS, Wipro, Syntel came for campus placements. They offered a package of around Rs 3lakh per annum(the first 2). Syntel offered around 2lakhs per annum. MphasiS and ADP called our college for pooled placements drive at other colleges. Many students including me applied for TCS off campus drive. Around 200 people got placed in all the companies, which is only about 50% of the students studying at the college.
College Events
The college always hosts a minimum of 3 fests every year. One is the cultural fest where famous singers and bands are paid to perform. The other two are tech fests, where one is a mini fest and the other is a big one, one of the biggest in the city, that is. People from many different colleges of different cities participate in the events of the tech fests. Other than that, the robotics club of the college always arranges different intra college and intercollegiate events where many people show up to participate.
Fee Structure And Facilities
During my time, the fees was Rs. 36000 per semester(6 months), with semester fees increasing by Rs.1000 every year. So I would say it's quite feasible and not that expensive. Although it's not as low as government institutes yet it's reasonable enough being a private college afterall.
Fees and Financial Aid
No scholarship is offered by the college. Not a single one. Students can opt for loans offered by different banks like SBI and HDFC. Obtaining an education loan is not that difficult as the college has a good reputation.
Campus Life
Gender ratio is about 4:1 for men and women. Many students from Bihar, Jharkhand and UP study at the college, so I must say it's quite diverse. The students are of mixed backgrounds. Some are economically stable, others are quite challenged. The college only has Indian students though. People of most religions study here.
Hostel Facilities
The college does not have any hostels of its own. There were a few PGs nearby. The average rental was Rs. 5000 per month including food. They were regular PGs offering basic facilities like bed, table and washroom to the students. There were TVs in the common rooms.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is pretty big but it's dense in the IT industry mostly at companies like CTS and Wipro. The seniors are pretty helpful, and never back out from providing support to the juniors in any aspect.
Exam Structure
The exams were quite strictly supervised. Even the unit tests were strictly guarded. Lab exams were more lenient for us. But otherwise a regular day without exams at the college was pretty chilled out. During exams if anyone was caught cheating he would be thrown out of the examination hall and his paper would be cancelled.
Admission
The notification for WBJEE 2011 was released on September 2010. The application process was offline then, one had to buy a hard copy of the form and send it to the authorities after filling it up, by courier that time. The exam occurred in May and the results were declared by the next month. After that on the basis of ranks, one was called for counselling at Salt Lake stadium, where one could select any of the college and department in first come first served basis. Once the college and course was finalized, we were given a week to go and deposit the fees amount at the college.
Faculty
If I am speaking honestly, I would say that faculties are not very good and versatile. Only one teacher is up to the mark and is very very good. He taught us Control Systems and he was excellent. Now he's the head of the department of Electrical Engineering.
