IIT KGP is very strong with its academic qualities and students activity but it lacks a good administration. A better administration in the Institute can make it a number one institute of the country and can secure a good world university ranking.

GATE. IIT Kharagpur has excellent academic profile along with great research exposure. I was asked during interview, what kind of research practice I would like to take during the research planning, and at what area I would prefer to work.

Courses are generally oriented based on broad area of particular field instead of very limited topic. Students are asked to select the project first under assigned faculty member. Now based on the research topic, students can opt for elective subjects. However, there is no hard rule to select electives only require for the project topic. Students can take electives from other departments as well, based on their personal choice.

Yes, our college provides internship. The value of stipend varies based on the project where a student is accumulated. When a student joins a funded project, she receives stipend based on the availability of funds. But students joined in the non-funded projects, does not get any stipend.

IIT Kharagpur, is very renounced for the campus placement offers. Many students get jobs at MNCs with very high package. Average package offer is about 10 LPA. However, Masters level students do not receive a much campus job offer. But, most of the Masters students are consumed in the academics of industries through off campus drives or receives PhD offers from overseas Universities.

Spring Fest is among the best events of IIT KGP. More than 500 colleges participate in this gala event. Ksitij is a great Technical fest celebrated here. Other Techno-Management fest like National Space Challenge, Megalith, Cheminsight, Composit, and many more events make IIT KGP a vibrant atmosphere through the year. Illumination is a festival of lights celebrated by every hostel on the occasion of Diwali. SpicMacy is a great cultural event celebrated every year with eminent musicians of India and abroad.

The academic infrastructure of IIT KGP is great and the fee structures are made according to that. Fees are little expensive for low-income families but student get education loan at attractive interest rate. Some students even get scholarship from national agencies that reduce their burden. Overall, the fee structure is moderate based on the facilities provided.

Students get educational loan from SBI and PNB situated at the institute campus. College provide scholarship to meritorious students of low-income families or schedule caste/ tribe or other backward class through several national agencies.

IIT KGP is a vibrant institute having a great green campus. The ambiance of the campus is very charming as students engaged in several activities such as Sports (Cricket, Football, Swimming, Basketball, Lawn Tennis, Badminton, and many more). Institute of two big sports field. Robotics and Mind games are two major subject of interest for students here. Entrepreneurship is another area of interest for many.

Hostel facilities are ok. Hostels are provided with 24x7 power supply, free high speed WiFi facility, sports ground, clean water, clean floors, and well maintained toilets. However, rooms are very tight. Mess foods are of low quality. Students are not provided with quality food. All Hostels are operated by private parties, and maintain no quality. Food charges are high.

IIT KGP has strong alumni network. We have a separate cell for Alumni affairs and institute receives funds from Alumni. Alumni helps is getting good jobs as well and internships.

Study and research at IIT Kharagpur, is of mixed culture. Motivate students spend a lot of time in labs for research jobs. There is a fair amount of academic load. Other than frequent exams and assignments, students get time for other non-academic events.

For admission to Graduate program at IIT Kharagpur, we need to qualify GATE exam conducted by the IITs or IISc. The applications are thoroughly scrutinized and selected candidates are called for the selection. The selection is of two steps. First step is written exam on related discipline. After qualifying the cut off marks for written, selected candidates are called for interview. After interview, over all academic marks and written exam score and interview score are summarized to cumulative score for final selection based on number of available positions.

All faculties are having PhD degrees and postdoctoral experience of reputed universities. Most faculties preferred subjects of their related research field. However, there are basic subjects in the undergraduate and Masters course. Hence, faculties adopt subjects based on their comfort and expertise.
