Splendid charm of Hansraj

I think all-over Hansraj is a good college and I would like to recommend others who are planning to seek admission in this college. Only problem which I faced in the college in the very beginning was the infrastructure, but as I said that too is not going to be a problem for newcomers anymore as because the renovation that is being carried out is commendable. Apart from this, the crowd of Hansraj us also very descent with the cooperating seniors and staff members.

I sought admission in Hansraj College, Delhi University on the merit-cum basis in the fourth cut-off list. I had scored 96.25% in the ISC Boards examination. I took admission in this college because in Delhi University, generally, admissions are on the basis of cut-off lists that are released out and accordingly I couldn't seek admission in Shri Ram College of Commerce(everyone's dream college of commerce) but got admitted in Daulat Ram College in a 2nd cut-off list of DU. And when I found that I was eligible to seek admission in Hansraj in the 4th cut-off list, I immediately took admission after withdrawing from DRC. I preferred seeking admission in the mentioned college as it is top 5 colleges of commerce in India. The mode of admission was online.

The course ( Bachelor of Commerce Honours) I am pursuing has a well-defined structure with a clear categorization into Generic Electives and Core subjects. In the 1st semester, we had 2 core subjects( Financial Accounting, Business Law), one AECC subject( Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course) - EVS and Generic Elective( Microeconomics).Then, in the second semester, we had again 2 core subjects( Corporate Accounting, Corporate Law), one AECC subject( Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course) - Business Communication and Generic Elective( Macroeconomics). Currently, I am in 2nd year ( 3rd Semester) where again there are 4 subjects as earlier with an addition of one more subject- Human Resource Management, Income Tax, E- Marketing, etc.

I feel Hansraj deserves a good rank if talking of the provision of internship opportunities as I have witnessed lot of internship seminars and events, workshops being conducted frequently in my college for 2nd and 3rd year students and many of them availed these opportunities.The internships ( both part time and full time) are offered at a good scale with a mediocre stipend. That's all I am aware till now, hoping to gather more information with my passing year and share with you all.

Actually, I have just completed my 1st year in this college, so honestly I have little information about placement of Hansraj College but whatever information information I have, I would like to share with you all. I had a word with a senior college friend of mine who passed out last year. She told me that placement of Hansraj is not so outstanding but a good one with a nominal salary upto 30-40k per month. I have witnessed various seminars and workshops constantly being held in our college at regular intervals regarding placement and internship opportunities. And as heard, various top listed companies step in for campus selection in our college as in Kpmg,Genpact,Deloiitee, Google,and the KPOs for offering jobs. The highest package was about Rs 14 lakhs per year and the average salary was about Rs 3 lakhs per annum. 40 to 50 student from our department got placed

So, events... coming to discussion of events, really quite interesting and knowledge imparting events are held in our college very frequently like speaker sessions( Converge, Empressa), promotional events of celebrities, cultural programs such as dance by participants of our dance societies- Terpsichorean, and the beautiful heart touching songs and bhajans presented by the participants of our music society- Swaranjali. Recently, Mr.Manjot Singh and other celebrities hoisted our India's flag in our college on the independence day. Then apart from this, our college welcomes seminars and workshops by IIT's and IIM's. The 2-3 days fest organised in our college is a prominent one that invites great speakers, celebrities and prominent personalities. And, the great thing about these events is that the funds that are arranged for the organisation of these fests are raised by the collegiates themselves by a way of sponsorship and other means.

The fee structure of our college according to me is really very feasible and affordable for all classes. Its just Rs. 16,000 approx. annually which is not that great amount to study in such a reputed and recognized college of Delhi University. Moreover, for the financially weak students, there is provision of concession in fees which makes convenient for then to pay off their fees easily. There are no extra expenses of examination forms and other things all round the year, so it is quite expedient.

Till now I am not aware of any kind of scholarship or loan facility as such. I just availed a scholarship worth ₹2000 from my college as a way of concession in my annual fees last year. I am not aware of other good scholarships.

Talking of infrastructure, I feel Hansraj is going to be counted as one of the best colleges in terms of infrastructure as currently renovation of all the blocks and library, offices is going on. Truly speaking, as far as I have witnessed the ongoing renovation, our library has been renovated so well. And, in terms of taking care of greenery and cleanliness, our principal Mam has taken a lot of effort to promote green environment by widening the area of lawn and use of different varieties of flaura in our ground. Moreover, the canteen which was not so good in our college has been restored to a better condition with better fooding in terms of hygiene and taste. The competitions are held on a regular basis for various departments of our college. Sports competitions are very casual and apart from this, Hansraj College organises the quiz competitions and music competitions frequently. Our college has secured a remarkable position various times among all colleges of DU.Hansraj is a co-education college providing equal opportunities to both girls and boys in every field. Moreover, the college stands at a reputable position in terms of curriculum. Our debate and quiz societies, NSS society all are doing very efficient work in shaping our future career. There are lots of activities including participation of collegiates in sponsoring and coordinating the events and fests being carried out in our college.

The hostel facilities and mess fod are nice as heard by my college mates and seniors. I can't personally share my experience as I am not staying in college's hostel. Moreover, the reason I found a PG for myself because of no provision of girls hostel in my college. This is the only thing which makes me give a bad remark to my college otherwise all other things are well maintained. The PG rentals vary from 5k - 20k depending on the fooding and lodging facilities and the area(location) of Pg's.

I think undoubtedly I can answer this question positively because truly it was the first day of my college when I stepped in very anxiously with the fear of ragging and rebuke but that was the day and the day is the day I swear till now I could not find the practice of rebuke anywhere in and outside my college. On the very first day, when I wasn't able to locate my classroom according to given list, I had just pinged up a strange senior of mine for the help. Honestly, he cooperated with me and although being busy in his work, he guided me to everything. Seriously, if not lying, our college seniors are too cooperative and supporting.

The exam structure is not that hectic but of course who loves to give exams so yes, exams are hectic even if they are held for a day. The exams for all the courses are held semester- wise in the month of May and Nov-Dec. The main exams are held for 15-20 days with a good provision of study leaves. Before the final semester examination, mid semester exams which are popularly addressed as internals in our college are held after the mid semester break just 1 month before the final examination. Each year two semesters are there and accordingly two examinations in a year.

When I first came in Delhi for seeking admission in a good college of Delhi University, according to the cut-off lists, I had first got admission in Daulat Ram College in the 2nd cut-off list but as the fourth cut-off list came out, I immediately withdrew from DRC by taking back my documents that I had submitted and then took admission in Hansraj College with a percentile of 96.25. To take admission, I had to submit some documents( 10th and 12th mark sheet, Migration, Transfer certificates, photocopies of ID proofs, etc.) at the office and then annual fees of college ( ₹16,690) was paid online through DU portal.

The faculty members of our college are quite reputable and morally admirable. Our teachers are very good at lecturing, highly qualified and have a great understanding regarding the needs of students.T he quality of education is really upto a great level of standard. I am saying it just not for the sake of bragging up my college but really in fact it is so.
