What Students Say
Likes
- The campus life is very vibrant and there is always something or the other going on in campus for students to blow off their steam.
- There are a lot of opportunities provided by the university. There is an Atal Incubation centre that helps incubate start up ideas. The CDC helps students irrespective of their year of study find internships
- The campus is very inclusive and the students are given a lot of freedom. We are treated like young adults instead of constant monitoring
Dislikes
- The exams and assignments become overwhelming the frequency with which its held
- The campus is in the middle of nowhere so going to delhi is about a 2 hr drive
- The syllabus is huge and often the professors for the sake of covering it rush during the last classes
Course Curriculum Overview
Economics is one of the premier courses of SNU, having a lot of people go to QS's top universities and business schools after graduating in econ from SNU. The faculty is extremely competent, most of them have taught at top universities around the world before coming to SNU. There is a lot of corporate exposure too as a lot of professors have worked in organizations like the world bank and IMF before joining SNU. However, there are very frequent examinations and assignments that kind of get overwhelming. All year-round studying is required to graduate with a good GPA
Internships Opportunities
A few of the companies that came this year with internship and job opportunities are: Bain and Company, American Express, JP Morgan, Delloite, Morgan Stanley, PwC, HCL, Infosys. The highest package someone got till now was around 70 LPA. The CDC also helps freshers land internships in the top 4s or the startups the SNU AIC is working with.
Placement Experience
The campus placement process starts in the 3rd year. A lot of the students opt for further studies so they may not sit for placements. For a few courses the last semester the students are expected to do an internship while some an expected to write a thesis ( depending on the course). The placements for the engineering branches are good with median CTCs above 12 LPA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are reasonable compared to the facilities the university provides us. There are lots of opportunities for the students more so for the students from low-income groups. There are merit-based, sports, and need-based scholarships. Also, there are On-Campus Jobs for students which pay up to 12k a month depending upon the hours put in by the students.
Campus Life
The annual cultural fest is called breeze which is the biggest event of SNU spread across 3 whole days. Also, there are about 70 clubs that also keep conducting events and fests depending upon their budgets and sponsorships. But all in all the campus is very happening. The sports here are amazing. There is a state-of-the-art indoor sports complex. There is also a horse race track where one can learn equestrianism.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are also really good. There are both AC and NON AC rooms. There are 4 sharing, 2 sharing and single rooms available for students. Each hostel has 3-4 common rooms and a study room. Common rooms have a variety of indoor games students can play. The mess is also relatively better than most other colleges. The food tastes decent and the spread for the buffets is varied. One can also swipe the mess card to avail ala carte for dinner. The campus is fully residential so everyone has to stay in hostels.
Admission
The eligibility criteria for sitting for the exam for economics were board marks above 75% and mandatory mathematics till class 12. I had to give 2 exams in total. One of which tested mathematics, logic, and English. There were 2 different sections for mathematics. After that, there was another exam for essays in which we were given 3 topics and had to write on all 3. After clearing the exams there was an interview round for the shortlisted candidates.
