Course Curriculum Overview
Considering the future scope of the Energy Sector, I preferred this Branch over Mechanical and Chemical engineering. This is an interdisciplinary branch with courses in electrical engineering like power electronics, network analysis, and electrical machines and some courses in mechanical engineering like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics etc. The faculty-to-student ratio is about 1:8 considering it's a new branch and a batch consisting of only 40 students. The faculty members are highly qualified and experienced. They have been teaching Mtech students for a long time. The term exams and periodic quizzes are conducted from time to time to monitor the progress of students. It's mandatory to attend the classes and if u focus in the class, you can easily do well in the exams.
Internships Opportunities
Most of the top companies offer internships like Jane street, Optiver, Google, Goldman Sachs etc. There is an aptitude test followed by an interview round. The main focus is on the projects undertaken and the scholastic achievements. Research Internships are also offered under SURA and students can take up projects under Professors to build their CVs.
Placement Experience
The placements are done through OCS, IIT Delhi's placement cell. All the top companies including Google, Microsoft, BCG, and Optiver visited. There were 1300 Job offers and more than 260 PPOs were made to students. In all 1150 students were selected. The highest offer made was INR 4 crore by Jane Street. I plan to pursue higher studies after completing my Btech.
Fees and Financial Aid
The institute fee is Rs238000 and the hostel fee is 60000. The institute provides various scholarships based on economic status and family income. I wasn't eligible for any scholarship so I have to pay the whole fee.
Campus Life
The campus life is vibrant with grand fests like Rendezvous, Tryst, Kaizen and many more. The campus is always buzzing with enthusiastic students and events. Rdv and Tryst are conducted in March every year. Inter IIT is the annual sports meet that witnesses participation from all over the nation. Practices and workshops for various sports and clubs are held almost daily. The campus has great infrastructure facilities. The institute library is open around 18 hours daily which is increased to 24 hours during exams. You can find books and journals on almost every topic there.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel rooms are provided with a single bed, a study table, a chair and a cupboard. The rooms are a bit small in size. The messing facilities are great. The meal quality is good and the menu is revised every month to avoid repetition. Hostel fees are Rs60k per year.
Admission
I cleared JEE Mains and then appeared for JEE Advanced. After the declaration of Advanced results, the JOSAA counselling process began. We had to set a priority order of the courses and colleges and then based on our advanced ranks if we were allotted the highest priority course we were eligible for. I didn't avail of any reservation benefits. The application form, fees and all the details are available on the Josaa website. The whole process was quite time-consuming. The month-long process should be shortened to about a week.
