Course Curriculum Overview

Department of sociology is named as Centre for the study of the social system i.e. CSSS. As the name suggests it is the centre for the study which means both students and Teachers will learn. CSSS is counted in the top 50 departments of sociology in the world. We have superb faculty including Prof. Surinder Singh Jodhka, professor Abhijit Pathak, Prof. V Sujata, and some foreign-trained Professors like Ratheesh Sir and Divya mam. We have almost 15-20 professors and all are well-trained in their discipline. Most of them have completed their degree from CSSS. As the course has 4 semesters, you have to appear for the end-semester exam. To be eligible for the end-semester exam, you have to submit some term papers and presentations. But it's not "halwa" at all. You have to work hard, attend classes, and submit term papers and other formalities. You have to read articles and explore books. Unless and until you will not submit the assignment you can't sit for the end semester exam.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

There is No internship opportunity in sociology. Also, I don't know about other courses. They said income increase with the increase in qualification but it's not the case for a sociologist.

Fees and Financial Aid

The course fee is just 720rs. for 4 Semesters. You have to pay registration fees for each semester. Other than you can get an MCM scholarship every semester if you are eligible for it. But unfortunately, the center will not provide you with any internship or job.

Campus Life

5

It is said that once a JUNite, always a JNUite. Once you came here, you never want to leave it. Besides politics and protests, JNU has greenery, animal, dhabas, and a beautiful library of 9 floors. It has its own culture. You can see what unity in diversity really means. From fresher parties to Holi celebrations to Christmas day celebrations everything is enjoyable here.

Hostel Facilities

4

the hostel is good, the mess is better, roommates are the best. These things together will make you happy every day. The mess bill is around 3k per month. Food quality is good. You will get a special dinner like Shadi, every month. There is no fee for a hostel room you have to pay for the mess only.

Admission

From last year i.e. 2022, you have to apply for CUET (Central University entrance test). This test is for all universities like DU, JNU, and others. Eligibility:- you must have a bachelor's degree, irrespective of subject and stream. Admission process:- apply for CUET. It is conducted by NTA. Every University will release its specific cut-offs. You have to check about this regularly. Application fees are nearly 500-1000. Applications mostly release in May-June but due to COVID, in 2021 and 2022 applications started in July- August. The exam happened from September - October. The exam will be conducted in CBT mode as usual. If you will clear the exam. Then for JNU, you have to pay the fees on the same portal, and they will give you some tasks like attaching some affidavit and certificate. You have to attach them and then the university will call you for physical verification. Here you are done. reservation is the same as other exams. But 5 deprivation points are given to all girls.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have always held that the training I recieved during my masters programme prepared the grounds for my future development. The teaching pedagogy was centres around participation and a two way dialogue. I am not in the capacity to be suggesting improvements in curriculum as my stint in the university was almost perfect- more than I could have ever asked for.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is well designed by the renowned professors and faculty members from different universities in India and from abroad as well. The content was choosen keeping in mind to cover all the aspects of the specific subject for a pg student. As I mentioned before, the quality of study material was very good and helpful and very enough. But the pg thesis is missing from our course, due to which we were not able to do a research project. It appears to me after the completion of my first year that we can do our research under our given faculty but it wasn't mentioned in the course structure as it is mainly upto our faculties.

Course Curriculum Overview:

For the course i must say that this is something everyone needs to study about even if it's for just a part. We have ethics, moral, cultural relativism and etc. In our syllabus and it all really help to make our thinking rational, to see World from that point of view from where one can see the clarity. It's really necessary for improvement in personality and making good decision. I think there's need for making this course more practical like teaching, we can teach students about essentials of philosophy for there betterment of decision making from an early age.
