Any student who has completed a bachelor's in science with physics is eligible for this course. The department of higher education of Odisha conducts a common pg entrance test. Students with good marks in the exam can apply for admission to this university. You can go to samsodisha official website and in the pg section apply for the entrance when applications are being received. Application fees range from nearly 500 rs I think. The admission process is hassle-free here. Cut off is a bit high here. After Utkal University students give priority to Ravenshaw University. Last year's cutoff was around 73.55 including the career mark.

I chose the course because after a bachelor's degree in physics you ought to receive a master's degree to become eligible for ph.d programs. Right now in Odisha, the assistant professor recruitment process has been not satisfactory. Many departments in universities have fewer professors. We've 3 permanent faculty who are highly qualified for guiding students in master's courses. They've done their ph.d from IIT Madras, IISC Bangalore, and CSIR immt. They have a good mastery of their subjects. But due to teacher deficiency, they've to do other official work at the university. So they could afford less time for the students. Term exams are moderately difficult. Good preparation from starting of the semester can make you easily pass the examination.

The fee structure is the lowest in Odisha here. It's only 4960 Rs for 2 years. I'm availing inspire scholarship from the department of science and technology. Students opt for other scholarships too here. Students can go for internships at other institutions with permission from HOD.

There are various fests conducted by different departments each year. Hostel-wise annual functions are conducted with a very good budget and nice performances from different societies of the university. There is a PRIDE group which has drams, dance, Tedx, radio, literature and other clubs under it. Students can associate with any of the groups to showcase their potentials. Here an e-resource library is there with 100 PCs with air-conditioned rooms and high-speed internet. Students can use them for their entrance preparations and other study-related things. The Kanika library is one of the oldest and a royal library with a huge number of books and it's a very good environment for studying. Students participate in various extracurricular activities by associating themselves with various societies as mentioned and annual sports event also occurs each year. The stadium is a huge one. Various tournaments occur here.
