Gangadhar Meher University was established in 1944 as Sambalpur College, the name of the institution was changed to Gangadhar Meher College in 1949 after the name of the illustrious Oriya poet. It was upgraded to a university in 2015, and has been renamed as Gangadhar Meher University.

On the basis of its academic reputation and its quality of institutional management and responsive administrative structure, the autonomy of this institution was extended by the UGC. Further, the institution was identified as the “College with potential for excellence (CPE)” by the UGC in the session 2004-05. The institution added another feather in its cap when it was accredited by the NAAC with an “A” grade in the session 2015-16 in recognition of its excellent performance.

The University offers courses under regular and Self-financing categories, that consists of courses for Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Research level for different disciplines of Science, Arts and Commerce. It also provides Professional courses for BBA, MCA, BCA, MBA, B,Ed and Computer science for providing a wider opportunity for the students.

Admission in all the courses is given on the merit. The selection in MBA (offline) will be done by the score obtained by the candidate in the OJEE entrance exam followed by OJEE counselling. For MBA in Financial Management, whose admission is through an online portal, the selection will be done on the basis of marks obtained in the career as well as marks in the entrance exam.

GMU Admissions

For UG courses, admission is given on the basis of merit of class 12
For MA & M.Sc. Selection is done on the basis of Entrance test conducted by the University, along with the qualifying marks in the relevant discipline.

How to Apply?

Candidates need to fill the Online Application form and that will be available in www.gmuniversity.ac.in. For each program ( each Honours/core option) candidates are required to fill up the application form seperately.
For making Application to each UG courses, the candidates has to pay the prescribed amount (INR 300 for under graduate courses/ INR 500 for Post graduate courses, M.Phil courses and Ph.D courses) through Bank Draft, drawn in favor of the " Comptroller of Finance, G.M. University, Sambalpur" payable at Sambalpur. The filled in online generated application form with bank draft has to be submitted by hand in the university counter or to be sent by Speed Post/Registered Post at : "The Registrar, G.M. University, AMRUTA VIHAR, FATAK, BADHARAJA SAMBALPUR, ODISHA- 768004"
Documents required during the submission of hard copy of Application form :
- The downloaded hard copy of the online application form duly signed by the applicant and parents/guardian.
- Original Bank Draft towards application fee.
- Passport size coloured photograph
- Self-attested photocopy of certificates and mark sheet starting of 10th, 12th, graduation or post graduations and other relevant certificates as well.
- Migration Certificate/Transfer Certificate
- Caste certificate, if applicable.
Admission to M.Phil and Ph.D programs will be made on the basis of entrance test ( MCQ), career assessment and interview.
C.L.C & Conduct Certificate from the Institution last attended.
Certificates/ Documents in support of UGC-NET/CSIR- NET/ Teacher Fellowship/ study leave application to DHE.

GMU Facilities

Library: College has a Modern Library equipped with all the modern day facilities that the students requires for a better learning and understanding. It has accomodate a total collection of around 12,0000 books and many different journals/ Magazines/ Audio- Visual records for disabled students/ Cassettes and many other resources both for the students and faculty members of the University.

Hostels: College has separate accommodation facility for boys and girls with a mess that provides a good quality food with all the basic facilities of furniture, common rooms, sanitation etc.

Canteen facility is provided for the students to have home lile experience of food and environment. Members are appointed who regularly keeps a check on the quality and quantity of food that the students and other teaching and non teaching staffs are provided by the canteen staffs.

Transport: Transportation facility is also provided to the students to have safe journey to and from the college.

Wi-Fi: The campus has a Wi-Fi facility to provide a easy access to information to all the students and faculty.

Other facility includes Computer lab where the Computer systems are placed for different courses and different requirement. Students are allowed to acess the computer for their learning and understanding purposes. Students Counselling cell is also created for the students better understanding of mental and emotional requirement. The cell members take a care of these issues that can hamper the students goals and aim of life towards a better future. Ans. For all the courses available in the University, Only online application form is available, except for some professional courses, where candidates can visit the university office and fill the offline application form.

Ques. What is the eligibility criterion for Integrated B.A+ B.Ed course?

Ans. Eligibility Criteria for Integrated B.A.+B.Ed is that the candidate should pass 12th with at least 55% marks in aggregate for general category and 45% for reserved category candidates.

Ques. What is the minimum eligibility criterion for Examination?

Nice college but choosen the wrong course

Likes

I liked the teachers who do regular classes for us
Welcome get free wifi in whole college, and facilities are now have done better
Now after getting into hostel it's easy to do things of college and to go college and attending lectures regularly

Dislikes

There is no rest room in college for any emergency
The food of the hostel is not good and the hostel bathroom for girls is not so good
The result system is not good they don't not take out results at time they take too long to take out results

Students view on course

This course is good enough but I think nowadays doing and getting a degree is not enough we should have our skills to get a job in our college we do get internships but not placements . So I don't feel good to join this college just because I choose the wrong course

Internship opportunities provided by the college

Internship in our colleges come from many different companies like Mahindra sbi and many more as of need in sales agent basis it takes the internship for student who have confidence and can talk freely ,

Fees of the course per year

The year I joined my college on 2023 for Bcom hons accountancy in this college and the fees I paid for my admission was 5000 approx , for my reservation that was ST and I don't know about the other categories .then I also had applied for hostel so when I got admitted in this college I was not sure about getting hostel facilities so it was not easy to get into hostel thought it selects students as per percentage basis so I got admission in hostel after 4 months of my college so it's but difficult to get into hostels and I don't get any scholarship because my father is a government employee

Students view on campus life

In our college we don't fest every month or in between but we do have small small competition going on in our college and it's a great experience to participate here and I do have won prizes for participation and here sports activities and competition is also held and our campus is good enough to feel free in the nature

Facilities provided in the college hostel

Hostel facility is good according to the price it is taken According to this price it's okay like in starting we paid 8100 for admission in hostel and after 1st semester we do have to readmission for hostel and courses too and that too in less amount , the hostel food is not so good and the girls hostel is outside the campus and we cannot go out in colourful dresses in normal days like only on Sunday we can wear colourfil dress and go outside for outing

Students view on faculties

In our commerce department in bcom hons there are almost 400 students in 3 classroom provided though all of the students come only to give exams but seriously they should not accept this much students in department ,here faculties are good enough to make a bond like teacher student and our hod is also good and co-operate with us in terms of studing or in terms of any program he is good ...now I am in 2nd year I just gave my 3rd semester and it was all good enough to make me pass my 3rd sem ....in 1st sem only many students got their back paper ..its not that the teachers do strict correction but students should also write something then only teachers will give marks to them

I applied for colleges after my 12th boards results when it came I applied in SAMS for my colleges and I thought in sambalpur it is like close to our home town it is far from rourkela but not that much so I decided to stay here and do my degree complete

Night Life

In our college there is only 2 cafe type something not a big one but it's okay and in budget for students to have it and in cafes they do serve meals and all snacks in morning and evening it would have been great if our girls hostel would have been inside the campus so that we can also roam here and there freely in the college .just because we are outside the campus our in time is 5:30 pmand we can't get out after that

Another thing i liked is the campus. The campus is really good there are big classes and halls as well as smart board attached to them.
The college overall helps the new comers....who is new to the campus by setting instruction board right in every floor of the campus...in order to help people find the different rooms.

Admission:

The reason I choose this college over other colleges is for its affordable fees, good academic reputation and govt recognition. Compared to other universities like revenshaw or utkal, GMU offers a cost-effective education,but it lags in infrastructure, placement, faculty quality in some departments

I chose this college over other because of academic reputation, research and development opportunities, career and placement opportunities and campus and facilities. I couldn't make it to clothes college because of High cut off scores , competition level , document verification issues etc Eligibility was minimum requirement of 12 th grade percentage . College accept multiple entrance exams and cutoff vary every year based on competition. Final admission based on overall merits score and interview passed.

Our campus is best. Best environmental feeling positiveness and our campus facilities is good.
Time of college is best and event is held for enjoyment purpose and its influenced to the youth.

Washroom facilities are poor. No clean our Washroom soo many diseases are intract from this
Class room facilities are not better because such class light ffan are not working.

Admission:

Our college admission process is very strict. Such procedure cam follow for admission in this college. High percentage students can apply ij this college because it is reputation college of our sambalpur. Many district students come to our college for study. In other college maximum fees charges but our college take low fees from their students. In other college low percent students can also applied but our GM college selected high percentage students.

GMU Sambalpur BBA is offered as 3 Years Full Time program, with total intake of 64 seats. The minimum eligibility criteria for BBA is 10+2. The total fees for GMU Sambalpur BBA in 2025 is INR 6,210 for the complete course duration. Candidates who wish to apply to the courses available at the University may do so by following the given steps.

Go to the official university website and can download the application form in PDF form.
Complete filling in the application form and take a print out.
Submit the print out along with the application fee to the University counter, either in cash or through bank draft, drawn in favour of ‘Comptroller of Finance, Gangadhar Meher University, Sambalpur’, payable at Sambalpur.
Copies of required self – attested documents must be submitted as well.
Applications can be sent via post or courier as well.
The general fee structure is INR 300 per form for all undergraduate courses.
The form costs for PG, M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses is INR 500 per form
