Remarks

My college management has been in line with the values they teach. I am glad to have seen some of the best managed time at Jai Hind of my life. the fundamentals taught by them have made me grow in life and I continue to walk the same path they showed me and hope to inspire many more to do the same. In my entire college course time one bad remark I could only see was the lift that I saw which could only ferry 5 students. I really wish we had more...

Entrance Preview

I at first had opted to go for IIT JEE but could not get through. Microbiology was always a field I have been fasicnated to and hence I could get through to the course.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Course curriculum was as per guidelines set by Mumbai University. More than the course curriculum I would say that the teachers were great in delivering the curriculum. In details is not possible since all teachers were equal in delivering the subject given to them.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college at that time did not provide any internships. However we were provided with many initiatives for our development. One such initiative was the credit programme wherein we could select and develop a research project on our own.

Placement Experience

5

The course had no openings or placements of its own. The college had its own placement cell where we could go and opt for jobs. The placement cell was open to all students and the extend of the jobs and opportunities was great. I also did get an offer from the college as a Sr. Medical Representative in a Pharmaceutical Company. The package offered at that time was approx. 1.56 lacs/annum but I could get through because of my interview performance.

College Events

5

To begin with I was part of a huge team of students encompassing students of botany, biotechnology, physics and chemistry. We had been active participants in all inter collegiate events such as Phyzex (Jai Hind), Health Festival (K J Somaiya), Chemtrek (St. Xaviers College), and many more were added like Birla College, Kalyan, Gurunanak Khalsa College, Matunga, KC College, Churchgate. The Micro department did not hold any event but the Biotechnology dept had Genesis, Phyzex by the Physics Department and Sports week by the Arts Teams.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is relaxed since the course was added. As memory serves I will try to focus as much as possible. For First Year I remember paying INR 12000/- For the Second year I paid almost the same amount For the Last year I had paid approx. INR 14000/-. These were just the tuition fees. Lab breakage charges, journal charges, and notes were billed separately to us. Also, the payment for the journals was not much, so we were not burning holes in our parents pockets.

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not avail any scholarship or loan facility from the college. I was working that time so could afford my fees. However the college does have its own scholarships that are given to the students based on their academic excellence.

Campus Life

4.5

There were more females as compared to males in the whole college. One could estimate approximately, 3 females to a male in the college. However there was no bias or any such orientation in the college. We had an active management which would ensure that opportunities and credit goes to the right candidate irrespective of the gender, caste or age. Whilst economy wise we could see children of the higher end class right upto those who passed to college with scholarships.

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostel does not have any dormitories of its own. The locality of the college is in one of the most high profile areas of Mumbai. Most of the students which came to college were either from the city area or were residing in hostels available in the city. The college though certainly was offering concessions on travelling by provision of bus and train passes. We could avail this facility by filing a form every month with head cashier of the travel team, Mr. Dedia.

Alumni/Alumna

Certainly yes. I was luck y to have a phenomenal senior gang and equally active and sweet junior gang as I graduated forward. My rapport with my seniors and juniors was better than my classmates. I enjoyed the company more than I actually enjoyed studying.

Exam Structure

To begin with the first year was very chilled out. Almost 4 hrs of lectures plus 3 hrs of early afternoon practicals happened. So on and all we had a busy 6 day college week and this somewhat continued in the second year too. Only difference here was instead of three there were two subjects, Chemistry and Microbiology. Lectures extended by an hour and so did practicals. The actual hectic schedule started in the Third year wherein we had to spend almost 4 hours in practicals and were practically living in the Microbiology lab but I still honestly miss those days and if given a chance, would like to again go back and do my Bachelors once again.

Admission

It was quite easy. The form was available at the office counter and easily got it. Filled it the very same day and waited for the list. My name got through the list almost about a week later. Initially had kept an option of either Biotechnology or Microbiology as a choice. Later my marks were not at par for the requirement and got to Microbiology. Majors picked up were Chemistry, Botany and Microbiology. Admission process was pretty smooth. We had initially been interviewed by the HOD of the department, Vice principal of the section and the senior teachers. Post their approval, the admission was granted and college started in a month's time.

Faculty

5

Again making a point here, all teachers are very well and astutely equipped in their fields and know what is to be delivered. My dedication was always towards Microbiology and all my teachers were dedicated and to the point when they taught us. My favourite of all was Industrial Microbiology, taught at that time by the then HOD Mr. M T Pandya. He has been a strong pillar to the course and his funny yet strong way of teaching was apt enough to get all concepts clear to us and also made way for foundation building of other aspects.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum followed here is the best for someone who is passionate about optometry and the best about the course is that u don't have to examine the patients but also can prescribe them medicines for so. The frequency of each exam is 1.5 months in between two units. The difficulty level of the exams is accurate enough as per the teaching and one can easily pass the exams if they follow the course with dedication.

Placement Experience:

The students usually become eligible for campus placements after 4th year when their internship is over. Ziess, Baush and Lomb, and Lenskart are the companies that visits often in the college. They provide with workshops for students and also offer jobs. The highest packages are offered based on your performances. But the lowest package is really good. Also a lot of students get placement from this college.

After the 6th semester, students can get jobs in the hospitals but if you are from the RIT department you can get a job in the 2nd year. The highest package in my course was 12 lakh per annum and the lowest is 3 lakh per anum. Almost 90% students get the placements which are why dy Patil is so good. I will pursue a masters degree after my bachelor's from the same college.
