Remarks

Presidency offers M.A. courses for two years. To get enrolled here, one must secure 55%(for general) and 50%(for reserved categories) in their B.A. Further, they must clear the PUMDET entrance exam. The notice regarding the admission process can be found on the official website at www.presiuniv.ac.in. Presidency University offers seats and some marks relaxation for the reserved categories.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

I opted for MA in English because I'm a literature fanatic. At Presidency University, I got an opportunity to broaden my horizon on this subject with the help of my accommodating and intellectual professors. Our Professors are exceedingly qualified individuals and endeavor to impart to us knowledge and understanding. We had group discussions and presentations which also enabled us to develop friendly relationships with our professors and classmates. We had our semester exams every six months.

Internships Opportunities

5

A non-paid organization called U&I had launched its campaign at Presidency University where students from Sociology, English, and a few other departments had actively participated. This enabled them to start their classes in Kolkata with the help of these volunteers. Some ex-student of Presidency are still working in this NGO.

Fees and Financial Aid

The cost of two years of MA in English was around 8000 including the admission and all the semester. If you stay in the University hostel then the hostel charge is Rs.1250 per month. The students who cleared certain scholarships were able to get financial assistance.

Campus Life

5

We have a cultural fest organized every winter where students participate and showcase their talents. Presidency University has two enormous libraries, The Arts and the Central Library where students can refer to and borrow the required books. The classroom has a smartboard which makes learning fun. The University has many clubs and social groups where one can become a member according to your preference and hobbies. Importance to cricket, football, and countless other sports and extracurricular activities are given and at times inter-college competitions are organized.

Hostel Facilities

5

Presidency Girl's Hostel is located in Salt Lake, Sector 1 and the Hindu Hostel for Boys is located on College Street. The girl's hostel has dormitories, double and single-seater (for the final year students) two water coolers on every floor and a hostel mess with very good food. We need to apply for the hostel and it will be provided on the basis of our distance and the annual income of our parents. The girl's hostel can accommodate around 200 students. the monthly fee is Rs, 1250 including the bus fee and dinner.

Interview Experience

5

The entrance exam conducted by PUMDET was MCQs on the history of English literature and a few questions from Rhetoric snd Prosody. The interview round is not difficult as the written test as your professors would ask you a little about your subject and the reason why you opted for this course. In order to apply to Presidency University, you need to have secured at least 55% and if you are a student belonging to the reserved categories then you must have secured at least 50% in B.A. in your honors paper. The seats are very limited therefore you must try to obtain more marks during the written exam. The entrance exam has negative markings for all the wrong answers. I read 'The Routledge History of Literature in English" and "A Glossary of Literary terms" by M.H. Abrams while preparing for the entrance exam.

Other Applied Colleges

Placement Experience:

Most of the placements that took place at least for the literature departments ended up with people joining educational institutes and NGOs. Very few joined corporate enterprises like Accenture. But it does provide almost a 5 LPA, if well placed. It is academically rigorous, therefore academics are weighed more than industry.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for applying for internships after the 3rd semester, and students can apply for placements only after 4th semester. Companies like Ericsson, Ernst and Young, JPMG makes visits our department for mostly analyst roles for economic and fundamental trading decisions. The highest offer made was 45LPA while the average is 7.5LPA. The median pakage is 8LPA. Almost 90% students secure placements after completing their degree since the Training and placement cell is pretty proactive in securing good company visits. I plan for investing and analyst roles in banking companies. I would sit for placements hoping for the same.
