Admission to KIT's college of engineering happens on the basis of MHT-CET and JEE mains ranks. To be eligible for this course you must have completed your 12th with physics, chemistry and mathematics as compulsory subjects. Minimum 50 percent aggregate in PCM for CET evaluation and minimum 75 percent aggregate in PCM for JEE seats is necessary. Application details can be found on the college website- www.kitcoek.in. KIT'S College of Engineering has reservations based on caste, tfws and location ie all the governmental reservations. To apply for reservations, students must follow the instructions provided by the college. Admission is done via CAP rounds. The admission process is a bit tedious as I had to stay the whole day in college for my admission, but it can also be said that it took such a long time because many students were interested in admission to the college. Overall in terms of admission, the process is smooth if you follow all the instructions given to you.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose B.tech Biotechnology because I always wanted to go towards the food industry. Biotech seemed the closest to me about that. For my department, the faculty-student ratio is really good. We have around 10 professors for 150 students. Besides that, each student has a mentor to which he/she has to report every month. Teaching usually takes place through the smart board in the classroom. The teachers are fully qualified professionals. Although sometimes I feel that theoretical aspects are more focused in the curriculum. More focus on the practical application must be given. At the start of each semester, an academic timetable is presented to us, students. In regards to examinations, the academic calendar is followed strictly and there is no delay in the conduction of examinations. The exams are fair and if you study regularly, it is very easy to pass the exams. But if you aim for higher grade points then you must give more of your time to studying.
Internships Opportunities
Usually, the students who get placed in companies in the 7th semester, are offered internships in the same company for their last semester. The stipend that I know of is around 30-40k per month till the start of the job. For Biotechnology students, students are given positions such as quality controllers, etc.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements from the 8th semester. Basically, companies visit the campus and are offered jobs based on their interviews. The highest off-campus placement this year was of 41 Lakhs offered by adobe company. The highest on-campus placement was of 9 lakhs offered by Persistent company. Besides that, companies such as Adani, Capgemini, DD enterprises also offer jobs on campus. My plan is to go for competitive exams at UPSC after my graduation.
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fee is about 108000 for the open category. Then discount is given category wise. But the main issue is that no matter how good you are in your grades, you won't get a scholarship if your annual income is greater than 8 lakhs. All the concessions are fees are bound by the condition that annual income must be less than 8 lakhs. There is a TFWS category for fee concession where top students of that class are given a scholarship. As my family's annual income is more, I didn't get any scholarships.
Campus Life
The flagship event of KIT's College of Engineering in PIONEER. It is a national level competition where various competitions pertaining to engineering are held. It is conducted in March every year. Then we have MERAKI, the biggest cultural event in south Maharashtra. It is held in February every year. All the classrooms for First-year students have a digital smartboard. It is around 90 inches. Many extracurricular clubs are present in college. Each club focuses on specific skill development.
