IIT Goa and Electrical Engineering

IIT Goa ranked 85 under engineering colleges by NIRF. It offers a huge range of tech-based courses like mechanical engineering, engineering in computer science, electronics, metallurgy, etc. The form was to be filled from the official web portal of the university for the particular domain you wish to do the engineering in. It included details like personal identity verification, marks of 10th and 12th and participation in sports as well as other extra curriculars. The JEE Cutoff for electrical engineering at IIT Goa is 5985 as the opening rank and 7167 as the closing rank for the gender neutral open category. After I was shortlisted for the admission, I received the call from an executive to pay the fees along with a security deposit of 10000. I also received counselling about the protocols of the university and insights upon the syllabus and activities.

The syllabus is vast and diverse here in the electronics department. However, the major curriculum included topics like Integral calculus, differential calculus, multivariable calculus, circuits and systems design, comms, computation and controls, signals and systems, electromagnetic waves and devices, probability theory, design projects, etc. Apart from the flagship curriculum, we were taught modules like Artificial Intelligence, Computational Vision and biological perception, Computer graphics and machine learning. The quizzes were taken bi-weekly and terminal exams were conducted once a semester. We had a co-operative staff and faculty amongst which, almost everyone held a Phd. The facuty-student ratio was 8:1

The placements at IIT Goa stood at 88.23% with the highest package at 14.76% and median package as 8.05%. Both the inetrnship and campus placement has a whopping success rate of 89% in total. Companies and MNCs visiting the campus were Microsoft, Codenation, Media.net, Paytm, ARM, Siemens, Mathworks, VMWare, Intel, Mentor, Graphics, Texas Instruments, Finisar, Larson and Toubro, Reliance Jio, Bosch, Ericsson, KPMG, etc. The human resource executives usually preferred candidates who had a good college profile with an academic history of around 4.1 GPA and involvement in internships and other extra curriculars.

IIT Goa, Ponda offers a merit-cum-means scholarship based on their family income. 25% of the students from each batch are entitled to this scholarship. They are offered a tuition fee exemption of 10 lakh per year as well as a grant of 1000 rupees a month. Apart from this, free messing services are provided to the students from scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. However, free messing is only limited for the basic menu. These students are also exempted from housing fees wherein the are not required to pay the hostel rent. The students with family income of 1lakh-5lakh are given such scholarships.

IIT Goa has a beautiful campus located at Farmgudi, North Goa. Apart from academics, the student candidates here had an amazing campus life with colossal activities. To quench their thirst for creativity and hobbies, we had clubs like Photography club, designing clun, Oratory and literature club, Dramatics club, fine arts club, Dance club, music club and also a college band. Apart from that we had development clubs like Economics, IT, Programming and robotics. We have our techno-cultural annual fest where students have fun every year. This fest is called Cultrang . We had conferences like Faculty development program, Collaboration with IIT Bombay, Online course on Artificial Intelligence, Symposium of Asian Control Association on intelligence robotics.
