Remarks

The admission was done through GATE exam. Some IIT like IIT Kanpur had in person interview. There was a counselling process based on which it was allocated based on GATE exam rank. I had a gate rank of 144 in the year 2009 and I got the MTECH in VLSI in IIT Kharagpur,

Course Curriculum Overview

ECE department is one of best in the IIT Kharagpur with very esteemed faculties. Also, you will have access to takshasheela VLSI labs for your second year MTECH projects if you want. You will also be take many of Computer Science department courses if you want. Also, the Library is very big and has huge books collections.

Class Size: 60Course Fees: INR 60000 per year

Placement Experience

IIT KGP has one of best placement rate in the country, specially for MTECH students. I got places in INTEL technology India private limited at first chance from the campus placement and it was very good experience overall. Same holds true for other specialty too.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees was quite moderate during my time of 2009-2011 MTECH VLSI courses. MTECH students also used to get good amount of scholarship which helps to take care of most of the academic and hostel costs. You can also apply for some other scholarships like sports etc if you want.

Campus Life

Being little far from main city of Kharagpur and being a huge campus , life was quite good in the campus of IIT KGP. My hostel was MMM which was better than most of the hostels. Classrooms are little old for the ECE department but VLSI lab where I did my MTECH project was top of the class.

Hostel Facilities

My hostel MMM had multiple floors and rooms were much better and newer than than older hostel, there was 1 bathroom shared between 2 room or 4 people at the max. But the food overall was quite average except the special occasions like Diwali where special menu would be there like chicken and sweets.

A student's perspective.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course structure is quite good. Only need the guidance which course is good of us. Syllabus is quite lengthy. I think theoretical knowledge is good but need of some practical knowledge is required. Laboratory work should be divided so that each students experience the best.

Almost 100% placement if you consider on campus and off campus placement both.most of the students go for software development or data science roles. Some goes for assistant professor roles in private engineering colleges. After third semester students are eligible for placement upto completion of their course. Major companies that hire are IBM, kal atm, siemens, arrise solution, virtusa, BEL,meesho, tiger analytics, ltimindtree, hcl technologies, hero fincorp, marcedes, SOA, mpocket, air india, morgan stanley, Just dial, Ering, HSBC, Bank of America and lot more. Offer ranges from 8lpa to 35lpa. My plan is to join job after completing my Mtech. Almost everyone got placement here.

At the end of 3rd semester, students become eligible for campus placements. 1000 of company visit campus every year in January and December month. Placement takes place in two form one in December and other in January. Like IBM, puma, ICC bank, Deloitte, ABG, Lenovo, etc. highest package is about 2.68 crore per annum, average 15lpa According to different profiles. Students should have more than 8.5 cgpa for good placements. I will join a good company after completing the degree.

I chose IIT kharagpur because IITs are the top colleges in india whereas my college IIT kharagpur is ranked 4 in India among all the other IITs. It is the first IIT established in our country. It carries its legacy and pride forever. We get the best education here and good placements. One can enter this college through josaa councelling.
