Studying Bsc in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology in Kalyani Mahavidyalay, my experience.

Intake is low and competition is high, so students must apply with at least 75% marks in HS to get admitted. Admission is based on HS marks only. Admission details are available on the college website. Reservation and cast quota is applicable during the admission procedure.

Molecular biology (though my course was B.Sc. in Molecular Bio and Biotech) is an emerging field as well as beneficial for humanity, besides these facts, I chose this subject to enrich myself with knowledge about this field. Faculty number is less compared to the number of students studying the course( 4 teachers:40+ students) Faculties are highly educated, two of them have Ph.D. & extremely skilled in teaching and the practical experiments taught in the labs. Exams(both internals and semesters) are timely. Each sem is taken within 5-6 months of the previous, Kalyani University(to which this college is affiliated)conducts the exams with great discipline and questions are of good standards, students need to work hard to score decent in the exams(including vivas & practical's)Overall coaching pattern is truly good. But they need to increase lab practice so that students get more chances to learn & practice the experiments & improve their lab work, which is essential in this field

At the time of admission, approx. 17k is required, then the semester fee is almost 10k/sem(variable), which you have to pay before appearing in the corresponding exam. Overall course fee can reach up to 85-95k(approx.) at the time of final sem. College doesn't provide any scholarships or placements but you can get rich guidance from the faculty during studying this course.

Fest/Freshers, teacher's day, departmental picnics are arranged every year. You can access almost every necessary book in the college library which is well maintained by the librarians. Classrooms are well maintained and clean. Labs are well occupied with equipment & machines necessary for lab work/experimental work. Yearly sports & other cultural programs are arranged by the college. Kalyani University not only arranges but also takes part in several inter-college sports competitions & sports tournaments, annual athletic meet, yoga day/sports day celebration, academic festival & youth week program, etc. where college students are invited to participate. Besides that NCC provides a wide opportunity for students of college/university to explore new curricular activities & job opportunities too. A students' section is maintained in the University/College website that maintains a committee against sexual harassment, anti-ragging, NSS, etc.
