Bethune College was the first ever all Girls college in Asia and has made quite a mark throughout its 140+ years history which made it a popular option for my MA. The college was placed 77th by Outlook and 74th by IndiaToday for their respective 2021 rankings of Art's category. It is NAAC accredited with A Grade and is affiliated to Calcutta University. Admission to the PG programme is based upon Merit as well as Admission test performance of applicants.
Course Curriculum Overview
The reason was pretty simple, I've always wanted to go into the writing field and that's why I decided to opt for a Master's in English so that I can become a better individual for this profile.The 2 year course gave me the best of opportunities which includes a Well structured curriculum, experienced faculty and also latest technology equipped classrooms.
Internships Opportunities
No, I haven't participated in the internship round. The reason was that no good opportunities were there for Art's students that's why I decided that I should rather work in internships writing opportunities which can help me with my goals.
Placement Experience
As my future ambitions were to enhance my career as a Writer thus I didn't wanted to opt for the placement round. However, the overall records for our batch's Placement were good. Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro and Tata group were included their among the recruiters and the average salary was INR 4.2 Lacs.Another major reason why I decided to not opt for placement is that I had some experience of writing and was confident that I'll be able to grow more through my hardwork.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure at Bethune College is one of the lowest when it comes to MA- English. Students have to pay INR 8,966 of this 2-year full time programme and the good thing is that students of Reserved or Meritorious category are even given aids and scholarships according to the norms.
Campus Life
Bethune College's campus life includes a bunch of Cultural, Academic, Sports and also corporate events. Students were given the best of learning through the modern classrooms and Laboratories. I was from MA so no technical activities there included in my course but the college had a well organised library which helped me to give my vocabulary a regular update.The Student committee & Cultural cell are quite popular in the college.
Hostel Facilities
I did my graduation from Calcutta University and opted for hostel residence there but I felt that there wasn't much need of hostels for me as I can easily up-down from my home. This dragged me to not opt for hostels during my MA and I think that was a wise decision by me because it helped me to stay connected with the outer world in a better manner. However, the annual hostel fee of our college was nearly INR 10000
Admission
Students seeking admission to the MA- English programme at Bethune College must have completed their Graduation as per the eligibility and they must apply before the deadline with all required amenities. As I did my Bachelor's under Calcutta University I was eligible for Merit based admission while those from other institutes had to appear in the admission test.
