Remarks

The college management is one thing that I particularly find very annoying. Thats a personal remark because, I find resistance from the management if IIT Delhi in every newly proposed idea. The delays are intolerable and often discourages students to orga

Entrance Preview

I was admitted to IIT Delhi through IIT JEE 2012 entrance examination in which I scored a rank of 1273. I was interested in pursuing physics as my career and thus I decided to take Engineering Physics at IIT Delhi. Among all IITs only IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay had good Physics department and thus I decided on IIT Delhi.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum here is very good. Starting from the first year, they teach the basics of Physics and mathematics that is gradually build up over the 4 years of college. It is structured in such a way so that we can decide on specialization of either in optics, thin films or semiconductors, and occasional theoretical physics courses. It has a good research environment as well.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, IIT Delhi provides internships in various fields and departments. The internships are generally in summer and in topics ranging from applied physics to understanding of the theory. Past students who had done internships in IIT Delhi had a very satisfactory experience. Also, there is an official Summer Undergraduate Research Programme, in which students work for 10 weeks of summer and also receive a stipend.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placements of IIT Delhi are one of the best in the country with jobs ranging from core sectors in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, etc. to non core companies in finance, analytics, consultancy, etc. The overall placement rate is very good as well as the satisfaction levels among students are good.

College Events

4.5

The official major events in our college are Rendezvous and Tryst. Rendezvous is the cultural festival of our institute, where there are all kinds of cultural events of dance, dramatics, stage play, singing, bands from all over India and even all over the world. Tryst on the other hand is a technical festival, where we have technical competitive and non-competitive events. Robocon is our main attraction, but there are overall all kinds of workshops like hacking, coding, aurdino workshops, etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure was revamped a couple of years ago. Now it is round about Rs. 45,000 each semester, about 15,000 each semester on hostel and food. So about 60,000. It is extremely cheap considering the fact that IIT Delhi is one of the prime institute in India for engineering. The fees is paid at the beginning of the semester. There is a MCM scholarship for the economically weak students which waivers their tuition fees each semester.

Fees and Financial Aid

The institute offers many scholarships on MCM (Merit cum means ) basis as well as simply merit based. The MCM scholarship is one of the major scholarship scheme which is availed by almost 40% of the students studying in IIT. Apart from that, there are a lot of other scholarships too. I do not avail any scholarship form IIT because I avail a private scholarship from TATA Steel.

Campus Life

3.5

The gender ratio at IIT Delhi is one of the poorest. Depending on the department it can range from 1:3 to 1:100. on an average, the ratio is about 1:7. As far as tolerance in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation etc are concerned, no such cases of discrimination had been reported at IIT Delhi during my stay. The overall environment is very good, with clubs for almost every cultural or technical activity. The student groups are always busy organizing some event or the other.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostel facilities and mess food is something that I feel can be improved. A lot of students (including me) believe that the quality of food served in the hostel messing can be better than the current mess. Also the maintenance of the hostels are not v

Alumni/Alumna

Yes, alumni networking is considered one of the important aspects of development at IIT. We have many alumni meets where students are encouraged to meet the alumni and get an insight about the world they are about to face. The Alumni Association of IIT Delhi is one of the most active group and helps in the overall development of the students.

Exam Structure

The examination structure of IIT Delhi is a bit different from other IITs. We have 2 minor examinations in a semester, and a major examination at the end of the semester. The weightage of the minor examinations is less than that of the major examination.

Faculty

4

The faculty here is very qualified. Most of them here have advanced degree in their respective departments. I would rather say that their teaching methodology is rather questionable, because in this world of application, practical application is of prime

Currently what a job require and what we are being taught in the college, totally different. We have to study separately for preparing job because in our course curriculum, importance skills aren't taught and the frequency of exam throughout the year is too much. We don't get enough time for preparing jobs. We need less frequency of exams throughout the year so that we can prepare for a job.
