Remarks

I am a student of SLIET, it's a central government college located in Longowal near Sangrur district and I pursue B-tech in 2020 in COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING (CSE). If we talk about the admission process it takes admission through JEE MAINS. Taking admission in Sliet is easy if you got Low Rank in jee mains. In the CSE branch, the last candidate admitted in 2020 is around 77178 CRL rank through CSAB counselling. As you all know JOSSA counselling consider your Category rank but in CSAB you get admission only through your CRL Rank. Sliet is a lush green campus spread over 451 acres. INSTITUTION FEE is quite low, in the first semester you have to pay 60k just because of some non refundable fee but in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and other all semester you have to pay only 32k each semester. The hostel fee is only 3300 rs per semester.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I choose CSE because I am interested in computers and I want to set my goal in the field of computers. As you all know everything is going in the hand of digitalisation so looking at the future and my interest finally I choose CSE Branch. I want to say that you all guys find your interest and choose your field. Moving forward Sliet is a lush green campus spread over 451 acres. Here Faculty members are highly educated and they are very supportive and some of them still doing their education at the age of 50. In every college every student is responsible and everyone learns from online sources and no one is dependent on the professors. So you have to do work hard in your way. By the way, in SLiet there is no shortage of free Time even you can manage everything easily. Semester exams were easy as compare to NIT and IIT. There is no issue of marks, you can easily get 8-9 cgpa per semester, even 10/10 cgpa also.

Internships Opportunities

3

Companies like TCS, MAHINDRA, SAMSUNG, BYJU'S, HUL, HONDA, NESTLE, GODREJ, COGNIZANT, INTERSOFT, GREYORANGE, EBIZON, INDIAN ARMY, SONALIKA, TECH MAHINDRA, MARUTI SUZUKI, COCA-COLA, and many more companies visit the campus. For Internships, you can go in the 3rd year and after selection, they will also pay you a stipend. Projects and skills are important for your internships as well as for your placement also. You can do projects related to your field in the club which is very helpful and you can improve your skills for better placement.

Placement Experience

3

After 3rd year you can go for an Internship but I think there is no PPO so, you can only be eligible in your final year based on your CGPA. In computer science, 80%-90% of students got placed and some of them go for higher studies. In mechanical engineering, 60%-80% got placed in this way the overall average placement of SLIET is greater than 4 LAKH/ per annum. In 2021 highest package was going around 23 lakh/per annum. Many reputed companies visit like TCS, BYJU'S, TECH MAHINDRA, GODREJ, SAMSUNG, TATA PROJECTS LTD, SONALIKA, HUL, HP, INTERSOFT, HONDA, PEPSICO, ETC. Some students also prepare for UPSC and GATE, and they go for Higher studies.

Fees and Financial Aid

If we talk about fees structure then the INSTITUTION FEES of the SLIET is quite low as compare to other colleges. As you know I am from the 2020 Batch, At that time institution fees is 31,140 rs per semester and in the first semester you have to pay a total amount of around 64,000 rs included HOSTEl charges, just because of some non-refundable, library, and some other charges. So, from the next semester, you don't need to pay any other charges, excepting the first semester all other 7 semesters you have to pay only 31,140 rs each semester as an institution fee and 3300rs Hostel fee per semester and around 2800 rs for the mess. So around 2.5-3 lakh your whole B-tech will be completed including hostel and mess. The Sliet scholarship program is also available but only the top three students get this from each branch. In the Scholarship, you will get your whole tuition back and you have to pay only 6k-7k rs per semester, which means your whole B-tech is completed only from 50,000-60,000 rs.

Campus Life

3.5

Sliet is situated in a rural area so this is the main cons, but sliet campus is lush green and the environment is pretty quiet you can do anything no one will interrupt you. In the library, you can get all types of books related to the degree to PhD level. You can opt for a book for any time of period, no one will ask you. Amenities in classrooms is quite comfortable and all classes are openly related to nature. Here are all types of indoor and outdoor sports are available like Cricket, football, Both type of tennis, chess, squash, volleyball, Gym, Basketball, Music band is also available, and so many activities are available. Clubs Like Endeavour(Robotics club), SSDC(Software developer), and so many clubs are available like Photography club, Editing club, Dance club, and many more.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

There are 7 Boys Hostels and 3 Girls Hostels, a total of 10 Hostels are available for UG students. Other Hostels are also available for PG and Diploma students. We will talk about it only for UG. In the first year, 3 seater room is provided to the students where you can get a separate bed, separate table and chair, separate Almirah and you get all necessary things. Accommodation is quite good, and in the last year, you get a separate single room. Meal quality is quite good not so much bad. For getting a Hostel you have to do some paperwork and then you can get a hostel easily and it is affordable. Only 3300 rs per semester you have to pay for Hostel. Rooms are fully furnished and Hostels are very neat and clean. Besides every Hostel a separate large ground is present for morning and night walk and you can also play cricket.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
