Remarks

For PhD admission, it is all about in which area we need to do our research. Based on our research area, we can check with the professors area of research in different in institution. I also followed the same and I found professor Dr. Vinod Kushvaha in IIT Jammu. So, I selected this campus.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

Everything was good. They are maintaining faculty:student ratio. All the faculty here are having high educational and professional background. Based on courses which I attended, the teaching method was good. If we're good enough to follow the classes, it is not a big deal to pass the exam.

Internships Opportunities

4

No, I did not opted for any internships. For UG students there are quite good opportunities for internships. There are chances for abroad research internships.

Placement Experience

4

I don't know much about the placements. Recently I heard, highest package is 42 laks for one of the pg student. The students are eligible from 7th semister for placements. I am planning for post doctoral fellowship after my PhD in abroad.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I feel that the fees was not the matter in case of PhD. It is well offerdable. I will get institute scholarship based on MHRD guidelines. Financial assistance also providing for UG students based on their family income.

Campus Life

4.5

Yes, there are several social clubs which are initiated by students as well as faculty. Tech fest and annual fests also conducted periodically. Since the Institute is in infant stage, the volumes of books available is less but we have quite good enough for online sources. For sports, the campus is having football, volleyball, badminton, tennis and basketball courts with all facilities.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Indian Institute of Technology Jammu

Exam Structure

GATE

Admission

Yes, I faced written and interview during my selection. First we will be shortlisted based on our educational qualifications and GATE score. After that, we need to give the written test which is also similar to GATE exam and followed by interview. In the interview, the panel was focused on my previous research experience, my basics in the area which I want work, knowledge in mathematics, how interested I am for doing this phd degree.

I have interest in physics so I choose bsc in physics as major subject.. As mathematics is quite related with physics so I choose it as a minor subject.. There are two phases of exams and in these phases there is a lot of time to prepare for the exams.. However teachers method of teaching was quite friendly and soft spoken ..

Course Curriculum Overview:

My course includes subjects that are beneficial for me. For example: Gender and Society – teaches me about society’s orthodox traditions and norms. Indian Knowledge System – explains how India’s knowledge has evolved over time. Literature – provides an overview of English literature, excluding stories and poems, and focuses only on the parts that are useful for us. Environmental Studies – gives knowledge about our surroundings, including living and non-living things. Political Science – a systematic study of the structure and behavior of the state and political institutions. Logical Reasoning – the best part of the course, very useful for our knowledge as well as civil services and defense exams. Law and Society – will help me in my further studies in law. Personally, the two specific subjects that made me choose this course were Law and Society and Logical Reasoning, because these subjects are rarely available elsewhere and will be very beneficial for me. The teachers are good at teaching, but there is a need to make changes in the teaching methods. As of now, there are only blackboards or whiteboards, whereas instead there should be smart panels, which would make learning more interactive and keep students engaged. Exams are held about two months after the semester begins — first internals and then externals. There is generally a two-month gap between the two. I believe the difficulty level depends on how deeply we understand the concepts and how well we prepare, although overall the difficulty is usually easy to moderate.
