The admission process was through JOSAA and CSAB counselling for NIT, IIITs and CFTIs. One has a decent chance of getting this college if they get

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I chose this course because of my specific interest in Computer Science. There are around 60 students in a class. A good number of teachers are PhD while other are pursuing PhD. You'll have to study on your own many of the given(true not just for SLIET but most engineering colleges). Teachers will surely teach whole course but it's the students who has to make the call whether he will focus more on the classes or on self-study. The exams are usually conducted on-schedule but like other educational institutions- even SLIET hasn't been impervious to the hard hit education system given the currrent circumstances due to pandemic. Some subjects may require streneous efforts to score better. And as I stated above, it is easy to pass the exams in both cases, i.e. by regularly attending classes and/or by self-studying at your own pace. It depends on the person-to-person.

Placement Experience

4

According to official stats provided by the institute, the placements are good. Since I am currently in my second year, I can't comment about it. But, according to official data, the placement is highest in the Computer Science branch. About my plans after the degree, I haven't decided and still exploring various fields and acquiring more knowledge - just to make sure that I make a well-informed decision (this time).

Fees and Financial Aid

The course fee is affordable when compared to other government and private engineering educational institutions. Some students can avail of a Tuition fee waiver according to their JEE Main AIR. There is a Scholarship cell for assisting students.

Campus Life

4

There is a TechFest and Madhuram organised in the institute. SLIET has a central library in which one can find way too many books related to curriculum and other academic books too. There are departmental libraries too. One shortcoming of the central library is that one can't find many books apart from engineering and sciences. There is a dearth of literature both by Indian and foreign authors, and books on many diverse topics like history, economics, philosophy, sociology, autobiographies, novels etc. Another point that needs to be emphasized is that one cannot find books in vernacular languages which is a major disadvantage since that limits the options for a lot of students that come from rural and semi-urban areas from all corners of India. There are many extra-curricular activities like cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, squash, swimming, carom, chess, ludo, gym etc. The music room is non-functional at present. There are clubs like SSDC, Happy club, EDP and many more.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

In hostels, you'll have a shared room with two other batchmates until the final year when you'll get a room for your own. Whatever you have ever heard from your elder neighbours, cousins and siblings about how mess food is unfortunately true for most colleges and SLIET is no exception. It's neither too bad nor too good, it's just average. You'll get used to it with time. And you always have the option to eat outside sometimes ( for example at KFC aka Kashmira Food Corner) if you feel like skipping the mess meal.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
