Remarks

I had applied for Gokhale Memorial College, Scottish Church college, APC college, and the like and have gotten into most of them. But the yearly fees structure, distance from my home to the desired college was fulfilling and most fitting in Bidhannagar College in Salt Lake, Kolkata. It is moreover a government-affiliated college. The minimum marks to get in a B.A. program is 60% in boards and there's also a quota relaxation and such. The admission process was smooth without any hassle, with minimum visits for admissions. This college also offered other short-time programs on the first day to help the students with career enhancement.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

I chose B. A. English Hons in Bidhannagar College as the college is reputed to be well facilitated with the subject teachers. Indeed the faculty of our department were experienced and very able professors. The faculty: student ratio is 1:10 and there is 37 students in our current batch and 4 professors in the English dept. The arts building and the science building is separate and the art building is relatively new. There are elevators with access to teachers, students, and other staff members. There are several clubs to join and a well-running students' section. The faculty is very punctual with the syllabus and the terms and the results are not biased. The difficulty level of the terms may be 7 on 10 (10 being very difficult).

Internships Opportunities

4

Colgate, Nestle, TATA, ABP Education, and other companies have offered internships with a stipend of 3000/- to 5000/- per month on average. The tasks was to be a social manager, or data manager or data entry level.

Placement Experience

4.5

Students become eligible for campus placements after/during the 3rd year or 5th sem. More than 200 companies offer jobs every year to students. the highest package is 40 kpm and the average is 30k pm. 60% of the students get placements. I plan on attaining a masters degree on the same after graduation.

Fees and Financial Aid

As it is a Government affiliated school, students coming from a financially challenged environment can also find it very accessible. The fees structure is around 3500 rupees per year on average (might be less, in my case, it's around 2800/- per year or less) accounting to any chosen program. There are various opportunities of scholarship availing, for any gender and status students. I, myself have availed two such scholarships.

Campus Life

4.5

The annual fest is celebrated every year around February or March, but due to covid, it is postponed in 2021. One needs a library card to access the college library, it has different sections of books for different students. There are more books to access than needed, which is a good thing. The classrooms have singular desks with airy rooms, labs are air-conditioned. The campus ground has Basketball, football, and tennis/ badminton spaces, with sports clubs and meets holding at different times of the year. There are various clubs run by students, for students, like the literary club, the science club, sports club, etc present in co-ed. I am in Literary Club.

Other Applied Colleges

Gokhale Memorial | B. A. English Hons

The distance was an issue. Gokhale Memorial college was more distant than the college I'm in now.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are several prospects, especially peer-to-peer counseling, where you get a mentor. We call it mentor mentee program. So, there will be groups of students, and each group will have a mentor who helps you whenever you face any issues whether in real life or in your academic journey. They’re always there for you. There are also remedial classes, and extracurricular activities are included in the curriculum. You even get the freedom to choose what you want to pursue creatively, like joining poetry clubs and similar groups. Right now, I’m at Banaras University, and the curriculum here is really good. We have sessions on public speaking, how to conduct interviews, and many other practical skills. These are highly commendable because they help you in professional situations like the one I’m in now. However, I would say that teachers could be a bit more active with electronic tools like using PPT presentations or audio-visual methods instead long lecture sessions. As for exams, I wouldn’t say they’re too difficult because there are many weekly assessments and sessionals, which actually help you evaluate yourself better.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I used to read so many novels from my childhood and that inspired me in getting attracted to this field. We used to have the fecility of having seminar in the end of every month after compleating of each lessons. And this process helped us in true education. After every year professors from differnt parts of the country used to come for a seminer for overall groth of the students. Actually is theory teaching style is followed in the college, according to me some developments in the practical teaching can be used. Semister is held at the end of every six months and the exams are used to be moderate in nature.
