Remarks
Admission is based on JEE Mains marks, this college is a constituent college of Uttarakhand Technical University and the counseling is done by them for all the colleges including GP Pant University Of Agriculture and Technology, GBPEC, BTKIT, and other constituent and affiliated institutes. Last year the admission was also given on the basis of 12th Marks. One can also take lateral entry in Institute if he or she is having a Polytechnic degree. There are seats for SC, ST, OBC Quota and one can also avail admission with Fee Waiver Scheme in which they don't have to pay the Tuition fees that is around 60,000 per year and it is waived under that scheme. The one with the lowest rank having the best score in JEE Mains is given the seat. There are around 3-4 rounds of counseling and the admission is given based on merit in JEE Marks. There is no such requirement of minimum marks so as to get admission to a college or course.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Computer Science and Engineering over other branches as my interest lies in Software Engineering. The faculty to student ratio is about 1:25. There are many good Faculties from IIT's, NIT's having Ph.D. Degrees and they have great knowledge in their fields, but some are new faculties and they are not having much experience in teaching so they struggle sometimes. There is one sessional exam that is conducted in between the semester and is easy to pass, one who starts studying 2-3 weeks before can score good marks in sessionals as well as in semester exams. The exams are not that difficult one who is having good writing skills can easily score good marks. There is no year back policy in our college. One can have all the back papers and can get into next year. The sessional marks are also included in internals and they also include assignment, attendance, etc marks. The semester exams are called externals and the paper is by UTU.
Internships Opportunities
Currently, I am in 2nd year and not doing any internship. There is a startup in our college named Colored cow and one can do a web dev internship with them. The students are taught basic HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, wireframing, etc. They also offer full-time offers to the students. There is no on-campus internship except this. As I am a sophomore I am currently focusing more on data structures and Algorithms, so as to build fundamentals and practicing competitive programming. There are very few on-campus opportunities and the students have to go off-campus so as to grab some opportunities. A few numbers of people are aware of off-campus internships and they are the only ones who search for them. Most of the people aren't aware of the off-campus opportunities. The same goes for full-time opportunities. But if one is having the latest skills and grasp in his/her field, he or she can easily crack off-campus opportunities. Most of the students here prefer a Master's degree over B.Tech.
Placement Experience
Due to the far location of the college in the foothills of the Himalayas and its location far away from the cities, very few companies visit the campus. The students have to go off campus to grab an internship or job opportunity. Last year PIE Infocomm visited the campus and took 12-13 students at a package of around 2-3 LPA. One senior also grabbed a package of 7LPA from Infosys last year and some also grabbed job opportunities from TCS, etc. This year the highest package is of a 4th-year senior and that is 13 LPA, this year also some students grabbed Job opportunities from TCS, etc. The average package in the college is around 3LPA. The placement percentage is roughly 5%. But if you are having the latest skills you can easily grab a good package off-campus. Some students usually prefer to do M. Tech. from good colleges and then having a good job. I am not planning to do M. Tech and will prefer a good job over it.There are some seniors who cracked GATE and are in IIT B, IIITD, NIT,etc
Fees and Financial Aid
The scholarship is provided to students who are from SC, ST, OBC Quota. The General Quota students can also apply for admission under Fee Waiver Scheme in which if he or she is the Rank opener in his/her branch then they have to only pay the admission Fees and the semester fees that are around 60,000 per year is waived off. General students whose family income is less than 1LPA can also apply for scholarships. The college is really affordable and one can have his Engineering degree for roughly 5 lakhs including Hostel. The yearly fee is around 70,000 and the hostel fee is 24000 per semester. Due to its far location from the cities in the hills, only a few companies visit the campus and the package they offer is roughly 3-4 LPA. But mostly students apply for Off-campus Jobs and this year one 4th year senior grabbed a package of 13LPA and some seniors also grabbed jobs from TCS. Last year the highest package was 7LPA in Infosys. Some Seniors are also doing Mtech from IIT's, NIT's,IIIT D.
Campus Life
The annual fest that is organized every year in our college is CIESZYC, but from the last 2 years, we haven't witnessed any of the fests in college due to many reasons. There is only one library in the college and that is having only the syllabus and gate books and some magazines. One Festival that is organized every year in Tehri is the Tehri lake Festival but it's not the college fest. Many famous personalities including Jubin Nautiyal, and many more come to the Festival every year to perform here. It is Asia's First Hydropower Engineering College and the fun fact is that it is not having Hydropower Engineering Branch. For sports, there is only one ground in the campus that is used for Cricket and one volleyball ground near the college. There are many beautiful sightseeings near the area including Mata Chandrabadni Temple, Mussoorie, Khait Parvat, Chopta, Tungnath, Chandrashilla, Tehri Dam, and the Tehri Lake itself. There is a developer group, photography group, etc in the college.
Hostel Facilities
There are two boys hostels and one girl's hostel inside the college campus. The hostels are well equipped with WiFi and ethernet connection and there is one common room and a mess in each hostel. The wifi speed is around 100-150 MBPS and one can get his identity to login into that. There is a limit for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year students but it is unlimited for 4th-year seniors. There are around 20-24 rooms on each floor and the buildings are 2 floored. The one boy's hostel is for 1st and 4th-year students and the other one is for 2nd and 3rd-year students. One-two security guards always remain at the gate. The food quality of the hostel mess is good as compared to other government colleges and the menu is different for different days. On Sundays, the Panner and Chicken are served to us. If one doesn't want to remain in the hostel he/she can have a room in the nearby village called Bagi or in New Tehri city, Baurari. The rent of a PG is around 4000-5000 per month in sharing.
