Except for fee structure, There is nothing BITS-Pilani lacks in terms of one of best college in India. Do pay a visit.
Entrance Preview
I gave IIT-JEE entrace exam along with BITSAT. I got a rank of 9000 in IIT-JEE. I gave scored 319/450 BITSAT. BITS-Pilani is one of the most prestigious institute for engineering, hence I opted for it.
Course Curriculum Overview
First of all, we have many courses which give an overview about different career options under Chemical Engineering. We also have Study Oriented Projects(SOPs), Lab Oriented Projects(LOPs), in which for a whole semester you are assisted by a professor n which you help him too in his research topic. There are a lot of these projects for students to choose from.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, they provide internships. There are 2 times when we go for internship. One is after first year, when we are not given any stipend, but is worth an experience about jobs. For second term, we go on internship for a semester in our fourth year, where stipend is provided.
Placement Experience
A lot of companies visit our campus in both semesters and you can sit in any company if you have completed the required courses. Generally, the core companies provide less package than the IT companies and consulting firms, but they do visit the campus.
College Events
We have three fests in our college. Each fest has a lot of participation from colleges all over India. BOSM, the sports fest takes place in October. Oasis, the cultural fest takes place during October-November. Apogee, the tech fest takes place in march. I have participated in the sports fest and represented BITS in Hockey. w also won bronze that year
Fee Structure And Facilities
Th fee structure is quite expensive, specially for a middle class family. It is more than 1 lakh per semester. as compared to different engineering colleges like NIT's and IIT's, the fee is quite high. Thought these institutes are government funded but as BITS-Pilani is at the same level as most of the IITs, the only difference is the fee structure.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are two types of scholarships provided by the institute. One is Merit-cum-need scholarship which is provided on the basis of the grades obtained and also the income should be less than 6.5 lakhs. Other is Merit scholarship which is provided solely on the basis of grades.
Campus Life
As it is known that the gender ratio in engineering colleges is quite low, same is the case of BITS-Pilani. It is as low as 1:10 in my batch. The campus life is quite good here. Regarding extra extracurricular activities, there are a lot of departments, where the interested students can join. Some of them are- Dance club, Drama clubs, mime club. Interested students can also join Robotics club, and a lot others are present. Regarding sports, a lot are played in BITS with proper infrastructure. Both inter-college and intra-college events takes place in which students can participate and showcase their talent.
Hostel Facilities
Most of the hostels looks old, but the renovation is going on to make them better and provide them with the more advanced facilities. There are no PG's , a hostel room is mandatory for every student. The hostel fee is quite low as compared to the rents of PG's and Flats in different cities. It is about 1000-2000 pr month.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni do visit the campus quiet frequently. Students in different department and teams are helped by seniors and the alumni. Overall development of a student is only possible if he\she interacts with seniors and they are really helpful.
Exam Structure
No, the exams are not that frequent. But we do have regular surprise test in lectures and tutorials, which check the basic things taught in the recent classes. The labs are twice a week and are not hectic as the rest of the schedule is in accordance.
Admission
There is an online test to get admission to BITS-pilani. Since I wanted to do engineering, so I opted for this test. I scored 319/450 in that test and had options for different engineering streams. Since Chemical Engineering is a wide subject, I chose it over the other streams.
Faculty
I would share my views about the faculty of Chemical Engineering. Nearly all of the professors are really enthusiastic about teaching the subject. They are also available after the class in case of any doubts and have a very flexible schedule for students.
