Remarks
I had a clash of choices between DRC & Gargi, but I preferred North Campus (better exposure than South Campus). So, I took admission in DRC in the Ist cutoff for Bcom(Prog). The cutoffs were so high that I couldn't get admission to any other reputed college (Venky, Hindu, Hansraj, KMC etc.) Even in the IInd cutoff, the admissions for Bcom(H) in DRC were closed, and other north campsites were out of reach. But luckily, admissions for Bcom(H) in DRC were open by the IIIrd cutoff, and finally, with a 96.5% in my best 4 subjects, I took admission in DRC in the IIIrd cutoff (Gen category). Thus, as a matter of fact, despite DRC's lower ratings in comparison with its neighbour colleges, competition remains at its peak; a general category girl must secure around 96.75% in her AISSE to get admission in DRC. Apart from DU, I had also applied for MDU (Haryana), as a secondary measure. However, MDU was never a preference for me, because of the poorer environment, infrastructure, exposure, & placements.
Course Curriculum Overview
I find the faculty members very friendly, approachable and supportive. I am a commerce student, so I can give a generic glimpse of the commerce department in particular. The professors are highly educated & knowledgeable. One can find details about their endeavours on the official website of the college. During offline classes, they used to teach using reference books, dictating notes etc. Owing to the pandemic, the classes are taken on Google Meet, where in addition to the conventional ways, the teachers also use PPTs, videos, jam board etc. Most of the professors in the commerce department emphasize a lot on attendance and internal assessments. Apart from the mid-semester examination, there are regular class tests, projects and assignments. Checking is moderately strict. Since the number of seats isn't too high (roughly about 250 for Bcom(Prog) and Bcom(H) combined), DRC's commerce department exhibits a healthy faculty: student ratio, as in approximately 10 students under each professor.
Internships Opportunities
The Placement Cell provides several internship opportunities throughout the year, both on-campus as well as off-campus, which provides opportunities to students to enhance their skills and profiles. FIELDS: Human resources, management, sales and marketing, graphic designing, content writing, social media marketing etc. PROFILES: Campus ambassadors, sales, marketing, operations, graphic designing, Human resources, Content writing, digital marketing, research etc. COMPANIES: Belucci, EduKey, HouseLtt, PrepJunction, CashKaro, Writerena, Internshala, Unschool.in, social notebook etc. STIPEND: Not necessarily available for every internship.
Placement Experience
The college placements are modest. COMPANIES VISITING: Several companies such as Wipro, EY, Byjus's, TresVista, Chegg, Teach for India, GDS, Delloitte, USI, Decathlon, Vedantu and many more turn up to recruit the students, for various fields such as sales & marketing, finance, consultancy, education etc. ELIGIBILITY: Campus placements happen for the students of the third year only. This year 60+ students got their offer letters. PACKAGES: Packages (as of 2020-21 statistics) are as follows: Gross package: 3.25 crores, Average package: 4.9 LPA, Highest package: 19.25 LPA, Though the efforts of the Placement Cell, which worked diligently despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, are appreciable, the packages are not satisfactory, and too low in comparison with the fellow colleges.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for Bcom Hons is Rs. 16235/- per year, which I feel is decent enough for a North Campsite college. However, even during the pandemic, with financial crunches in every household, and despite the shift to virtual classrooms, the college never bothered to revise its fee structure. However, there are ample career growth and money-earning opportunities available. The placement cell of the college is very active and comes out with innumerable internship and job opportunities throughout the year, in various fields. The campus placements take place in the final year. This year, the average package turned out to be Rs. 4.9 lakhs and the highest package touched Rs. 19.25 lakhs.
Campus Life
The campus life would be very colourful, a signature attribute of any north campus college. There are several societies and cells, all of which are colossal opportunities for growth. Placement Cell, Finance & Investment Cell, SMarketing Cell, Entrepreneurship Cell, 180? Consulting, Cyber Cell, Woman Development Cell, NSS, NCC, NSO, Gandhi's Study Circle, Recycling Unit etc. apart from the dance societies, music societies, poetry society, art society, DebSoc could be a few to name for instance. All of them work diligently throughout the year, and come up with numerous colourful activities, sessions, fests etc. and also provide the necessary exposure. Classrooms are not cherishable though (especially those assigned to the commerce department), they are too small considering the strength of students. The annual fest Manjhari (held every year in Feb/Mar) is appreciable. Several cultural performances & competitions are held, not forgetting to mention the star night.
Other Applied Colleges
Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, Haryana, India | Bachelors of Commerce (Hons.)
Poorer ratings in terms of infrastructure, exposure, placements etc.
