Remarks
The admission process for IIM Rohtak was like any other IIM - through CAT. I appeared for CAT and then got a call for WAT-PI Round. Once the WAT-PI Round was done, the offer letters were sent based on a cumulative score (CAT Score, Gender, 10th Score, 12th Score, Grad Score, Educational background). Till that year, the 10 new IIMs used to have a common selection process known as CAP. Now, IIM Rohtak has its own selection process different from the other new IIMs but the first step remains the same - CAT Exam.
Course Curriculum Overview
IIM Rohtak follows case-based pedology - all the concepts are explained with the help of relevant case studies. This way of teaching does help a student in understanding how a concept taught in class can be applied to real-life situations. The faculty: student ratio was close to 1:20. Most of the faculty had an educational background from one of the older IIMs. We did have a good number of visiting faculty who use to teach in IIM A, IIM B, MDI, etc. There were 6 terms and each term consisted of mid-term exams and end-term exams. The difficulty level was moderate.
Internships Opportunities
All kinds of profiles are offered during summer internships - Sales, Marketing, Analytics, Operations, Finance. Opportunities in Sales and Marketing are far more in number than any of the other profiles.
Placement Experience
IIM Rohtak offers decent placements. Drive for summer internships starts in the first term itself, while the drive for final placements starts in Term 4. Many students convert their summer internships into PPOs. Some of the prominent recruiters include ICICI Bank, Yes Bank, Amul, Decathalon, Deloitte, Cognizant.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees at my time were somewhere around 17 lacs. There were some scholarships available, but I didn't pay much attention as I wasn't eligible for them. The average stipend for the internships stood somewhere around 40K for two months, and during final placements, the avg package was somewhere around 11-12 lacs.
Campus Life
The campus of IIM Rohtak is new and has all the facilities that one would like to have in a B-School. The lecture halls are fully equipped. All the student bodies for IIM Rohtak are very active, and therefore everyone gets ample opportunities to explore their interests. IIM Rohtak hosts the biggest fest in North India - Infusion, in January.
Hostel Facilities
All the rooms at IIM Rohtak have ACs. Like most of the B-School, availing Hostel facility is not optional as it's a residential program. In the first year, we have a twin sharing room and in the second year, every student gets his/her own room. The mess food is good, we get to see a lot of variety and even the visiting faculty on multiple occasions has mentioned the mess food at IIM Rohtak is better than what they have seen in other institutes.
Interview Experience
The selection process did involve WAT-PI Round. Both the rounds were conducted offline on the same day in Vivanta by Taj. For the WAT round, the students are given a topic on the spot and they have to write down their view on it in 20 minutes. The WAT round is followed by a PI round. Most of the time its a panel interview where questions revolve around the subjects that we studied during our UG, why we want to pursue an MBA, and in which specialization.
