Remarks
For people pursuing an MBA, it is a dream to land up in a top B-School of India. After cracking CAT and appearing for all the interview processes the options I had in hand were IMT Ghaziabad, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IMI New Delhi, DSE, and all baby IIMs. I also had a waitlist at IIM Raipur. I did a thorough analysis based on the curriculum, placements, fees, rankings, and alumni base. I decided to go for IIM Rohtak based on the above-mentioned parameters. During this period I was constantly using Quora, Pagalguy to understand what was being discussed about the various college options I had in hand.
Course Curriculum Overview
Like every other IIM, IIM Rohtak has a case study method-based pedagogy. A usual day at a class has equal participation from the professor and the students. Professors are a mix of few excellent ones, many okayish ones, and a few you would like to skip lectures of. There are assignments/quizzes(surprise)/tests for each subject apart from a mid-term and an end-term exam. The choice and number of tests depend on the respective professors. The marking system is a bell curve so your performance in an exam depends on how others have performed(so a difficult paper is difficult for everyone).
Internships Opportunities
The internships are offered in various domains with top companies visiting the college. The selection process is rigorous and highly competitive involving GDs and Interviews. After the internship, all the students are expected to bring feedback from their managers/mentors based on which an evaluation is done in college.
Placement Experience
People get PPO offers during internship and final placements start as early as the 4th semester. Placements are 100%, students who are not placed till the end get special assistance and are placed. The average package for my batch was 14.5 Lakhs and the highest was 23 Lakhs.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee hike depends on the administration body and is usually increased by 20% each year. Almost all the banks assist easily with the loan procedure of the college. For me, the process was completely hassle-free and was carried out over the call. There are government-based scholarship options for reserved/minority candidates. All summer internships are paid and I got an opportunity to work with Lowe Lintas.
Campus Life
Life at the campus is very vibrant and engaging. There are multiple committees, clubs, societies that are completely run by the students. These clubs and societies organize regular fests and events. A typical day at IIM Rohtak looks like waking up at 8:00 am, attending lectures the entire day, doing committee/club work, participating in events organized by different entities, chilling out at the store, playing some sport (Table tennis/frisbee), and completing assignment till late at night or one can say early morning.
Hostel Facilities
In the 1st year: rooms are on a double shared basis with an attached washroom. each room is a part of a 3/4 room flat and has a little kitchen and a balcony for all these individuals. In the 2nd year, the same rooms are assigned on a single basis. ACs are there in each room. There is a table, a chair, an almirah, a cupboard in each room.
Interview Experience
After clearing CAT there was a WAT(Written Ability Test) and Personal Interview. My topic for WAT was something related to the current political scenario in India. I prepared for these rounds by reading and keeping myself updated with current affairs, general knowledge, revising the basics of my engineering, and by preparing points for my work life.
