Remarks
I started browsing for colleges based on the course I wished to pursue. For me that was food and nutrition science, and my criteria's were specific for selecting a college. So I took the help of Collegedunia, and other such apps for finding the right college offering the same.
Course Curriculum Overview
Nutrition is a branch of science that deals more with prevention than cure. So I found this course to perfectly suit my psyche. Faculty-student ratio in JDBI is quite good. The teachers are very well qualified with their respective fields of studies and employ efficient teaching techniques. Our semester exams occur at 6 months interval and with adequate preparation one can pass them all.
Internships Opportunities
JDBI has tie-ups with various prestigious hospitals like B.M Birla, Columbia Asia, Belle Vue and many more. So they provide a specialized training in the aspect of working with doctors as well. They also provide nutrition management internships with Amul, Nescafe, etcetera. The internship is a compulsion, and it is held during the last semester of third year for a span of 6 weeks. Students are even asked to make reports on their experiences with various organizations so as to increase knowledge of the same. JDBI quintessentially prioritizes their internship opportunities, regardless of the fact that most are without stipends, because there is nothing actionable than hands on experience.
Placement Experience
Campus placements in our college do not begin until a student completes their third year of the Bachelor's course in science dept. This course has a wide employability area. From food safety, and hygiene to nutrition and dietetics one can do a master's course or even a diploma in any of the fields related to food science, post bachelor's. One can become a dietician, nutritionist, food safety officer, diabetes educator and many more. I personally wish to become a clinical nutritionist monitoring patients with specific ailments, and delivering diets to recuperate the same. I also want to become a diabetes educator and pursue a B.Ed. course in Nutrition science.
Fees and Financial Aid
I must say JDBI does have am upswept fee structure. In the pandemic also, the lab fees weren't waived off. Additionally, the semester wise tuition fees are also unusually heightened. Scholarships are available for selected few students belonging to an economically backward class, or from WB board. There is no such job availability for students with stipend on the campus, but yeah there are other non funded opportunities.
Campus Life
JDBI has innumerable fests going on around the year annually. Most are inter college fests, and some are held between the departments of the college. Due to the current situation, it's extremely disappointing that we can not actually experience or take part in them. The library or the 'Learning Resource Center' as we call it here, is utterly equipped with several books on our main subjects as well as general electives. Debates, quizzes, webinars and activities are part of our weekly routine here even online, and they're mostly conducted by notable guests from the associated fraternities. 'Acuity' is an independent business college magazine branch created by students of the BBA dept. Another one is NSS which is actually established by the government but is basically run by students from many colleges, volunteers from my batch have are also involved with the same.
