Remarks

Whenever people hear of the name "Amity University",they have a particular notion in mind that they like to adhere to. But Amity University,Kolkata is much more than that. Apart from the sprawling campus and great infrastructure, the faculty of the stream that I had chosen was worth taking note of. I was informed of this course here by my teachers in school. The course curriculum was prepared with a lot of thought, including software and courses tailored according to the modern day scenario. The only aspect that might have been a con here was that it was a relatively new course in this University. We were the 3rd batch here and the department here has come a long way since that. One of the best things about Amity is the scholarship they offer but you must have attained a min. of 85%( including all subjects' score and not any best of 4/5 scenario). Also, you get direct admission here if you meet the above mentioned criteria. If you have scored less than 85% at the +2 level, you have to go through an admission process which includes a written exam and an interview process, that spans across an entire day. My experience here has been especially fulfilling.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose this course because the curriculum here has a unique blend of theoretical and practical aspects which helps the modern day student to prepare for the journey that lies ahead. The faculty:student ratio here is quite impressive. When I joined this course and as were only 8 students in my year, the ratio was 2:1. Now,it is almost 7:1 as the number of admissions are increasing every year. I got a lot of help from my professors here,be it regarding a subject, research paper or an internship. Every faculty member here is a PhD holder in their respective field of study. We has access to almost every piece of student friendly software required for the field of Statistics,be it R Programming,SAS or C++. The teaching method is curriculum driven and all doubts are rigorously addressed. The term exams are always on time and you need to be attentive in class and write notes because the questions asked in the exam are as much from the books prescribed as they are from the notes given in class. Also, you need to maintain a min. of 75% attendance for every course paper because failing to do so because lead to the student get debarred from sitting for that particular paper's term exam. With hard work and smart application driven techniques,85%-95% is an attainable score here.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placement cell of Amity University is very active. Depending upon your academic progress, you get a lot of opportunities to sit for placement interviews, starting from the first semester of your last year. But one thing that needs to be especially addressed here is that if you have a back paper at the time of placement, you cannot sit for any interviews. You need to make sure that you don't have any supplementary papers pending before you sit for the placements in the last year of graduation. Hence,it would be wise not to have a back paper in the penultimate year of graduation. I didn't opt for placements because I had planned to pursue my Masters after the graduation.

College Events

Life at the campus is amazing because there is always something or the other going on at the campus. Our annual fest is titled as Amiphoria and the annual sports event(intra Amity, inter Amity) is named as Sangathan. The library is well equipped and well stocked and you can always borrow books and journals as per you convenience. The classrooms are spacious and equipped with a digital board, speakers and podium in almost every class. Merger classes are held in the amphitheater styled classrooms. We have a lot of clubs on campus(Literary Club,Drama Club,Sports Club among many others). If you have a flair for extracurricular activities, you will always find a home at Amity. I did a lot of quizzes, dramas and public speaking during my time there. I was the emcee of 3 major Fest events and 10+ interactive sessions/seminars.

Fee Structure And Facilities

As I have mentioned earlier, the fee structure here for my 3 years of graduation was (tuition fees) and 20,000(Security Deposit, refunded after graduation). During my graduation there, the fees was not hiked even once. If you stay in/very close to Kolkata, the transportation cost is quite affordable. Amity bus service can be availed as well. There are various levels of scholarship depending upon how much you scored in class 12. (Min. Of 85%).

Admission

Yes,there was a written test and interview for the admission process but I didn't have to go through that since I was a scholarship student. For the Statistics degree course, you need to have had pursued Mathematics as a subject at the +2 level.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are several prospects, especially peer-to-peer counseling, where you get a mentor. We call it mentor mentee program. So, there will be groups of students, and each group will have a mentor who helps you whenever you face any issues whether in real life or in your academic journey. They’re always there for you. There are also remedial classes, and extracurricular activities are included in the curriculum. You even get the freedom to choose what you want to pursue creatively, like joining poetry clubs and similar groups. Right now, I’m at Banaras University, and the curriculum here is really good. We have sessions on public speaking, how to conduct interviews, and many other practical skills. These are highly commendable because they help you in professional situations like the one I’m in now. However, I would say that teachers could be a bit more active with electronic tools like using PPT presentations or audio-visual methods instead long lecture sessions. As for exams, I wouldn’t say they’re too difficult because there are many weekly assessments and sessionals, which actually help you evaluate yourself better.
