Remarks
Since it was near my hometown I opted for this university. The teaching staff is amazing here. They constantly push you towards achieving any goal, big or small. The department has its own EMRC building which consists of all the necessary equipment that a Mass Communication class needs. My admission was done through an Entrance exam which was conducted by the Mass Communication department. First, a written test and then the selected candidates were required to sit for a group discussions round. Based on the written test and GD, around 50 students were shortlisted out of 150-200.
Course Curriculum Overview
Mass Communication and Journalism at Dibrugarh University is really good. Teachers are amazing. However, there is one flaw, it doesn't have much exposure. There are not many placements for this course in the university and the placement cell is just ineffective. But if you want to learn theoretical knowledge you can go for the course in here. Teaching staff will do whatever it takes for you to shine bright. Exams were not much hard. It was easier for me atleast to pass. Exams took place after 4-5 months. And the average would be calculated in the end of the final semester exams.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, I applied for Press Trust of India, New Delhi and was granted in the Editorial Team for a month. It was a winter internship. There was no stipend. Was assigned editing works which were later published in major media houses. After much insistence, I was even granted in the Reporting team. I covered two of the Election rallies like AAP's and BJP's. I even did a solo reporting at Jantar Mantar.
Placement Experience
ETV Bharat, IOC, OIL. Placement companies here is really not consistent. They come for one year and do not the next year. Some batch gets the best placement and some do not. Maybe because the University does not have much exposure.
College Events
Varsity week is the annual fest which takes place in March for around 10 days where all kinds of activities like sports, literary events, cultural events, etc occur. There is even a Healthcare centre and it is free of cost for students. Overall, university life is really amazing as the campus is beautiful.
Fees and Financial Aid
Nil. There is no such loan as per my knowledge. One must contact the University administration for such information
Campus Life
The library is first class. All the books you ever wanted is available. Wi-fi is there in the library. There is a separate room for research scholars inside the library. Coffee, Tea is available for 5 Rs. inside the library for students.
Hostel Facilities
There are hostels available inside the University campus and the charge is only INR 2950/year. However, one must pay Mess Fees which costs around INR 1850 every month. Food is amazing in the hostels. There are around 10-15 hostels (including boys and girls) inside the campus. Hostel is available on first come first serve basis and in some cases it is based on the ranking in the entrance exams.
