Remarks
I wanted to develop my financial and accounting skills for a deeper understanding of any business. This led me to choose an MBA to guide me in my career. Hence, I always wanted to attend an IIM and devote my time to learn from the best. IIM Kashipur stood out to me due to its location and surrounding. Also, IIM Kashipur was one of those few colleges that help me to prepare for my interviews just after I was shortlisted. All IIM's are student driven colleges and they various clubs and committees. One of them was Team Insite. They had sent various material which helped me to crack my interviews. Also IIM Kashipur was one of those few new IIM's who had their own campus. Hence, all these factors led me to chose Kashipur.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is very progressive and productive in nature. Yes, it gets overwhelming sometimes but the process itself keeps you going. Its also amazing how the all the faculties are so motivated and are always open for any discussion. They try to pull out the best of a student.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, We have a mandatory internship program for 2months and the companies are mostly bought by Placement Committee. You gets various types of roles ranging from Research Analyst to Marketing Intern across various domains. Also various companies like ICICI bank, Tata Capital, and others may give you a pre-placement offer based on your performance. The projects and outcomes are specific to the job role you would be interning for. Also, students can opt out of the placement process and work with a company of their choice if they want to.
Placement Experience
The placements are good and companies like puma, Infosys, ICICI Bank and others are our top recruiters. Companies like Amazon and Microsoft do visit our campus, but mostly they are people who already had some work-ex. However, due to Covid-19, the placements were low compared to the last year. Also, they average placement figure are kind of misleading. Its not that placements are bad, its that some figures also include variable pay and makes the average or highest figures kind of hyped. For example if a student got and offer of say, 24lakhs PA, then this figure will be reported, however the same number may include 8lakhs PA as a variable pay. But all students get placed in some companies. The current average would be somewhere from 10Lakhs to 12.5 lakhs.
Fees and Financial Aid
IIM's are costly, there's no denying plus you need to pay additionally for mess food. However, being a student of Kashipur, I can tell you that if you are from a struggling family, IIM Kashipur will keep you covered. They have several financial scholarship schemes where they cover all of your tuition fees. If you belong from a certain category, they have a central government scheme. If you don't fall into any category, they have two other scholarship schemes; one of them is the need based scholarship for low income groups where they cover all of your tuition fees and transfer it directly to your make account. The other is a merit based scholarship where they give similar facilities.
Campus Life
We have a grand annual fest known as Agnitraya. This is the event where various clubs and committees rolls their flagship events. And all of these events comes with great cash rewards and other benefits. Other than that we have TEDx and Uttishtha. These events keeps you refreshing and helps you to learn and develop your skills. We have a sports, mess, library and various other facilities that are managed and run my student bodies. The student bodies are divided into three categories, i.e. Clubs, Committees and Cells. For example Mess committee is responsible for managing staff and food. You can get all the details of various students bodies in our website and Students' Corner sections.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel fee is included in the total fees itself. You cant say in a PG as the campus is located in the outskirts. For first years, you get a double sharing room and for second year, you get a single room. However, its still on the expensive side. There's also a common place on every floor where you have a refrigerator and a Washing Machine. Talking about the food, its really good and comes with all sorts of items from veg to non-veg dishes. And you get special dishes on numerus occasions.
Interview Experience
There was no group discussion round, but there was a written test where you are given a topic and around 20mins to write on the topic based on your knowledge. And just after that, they call you for an interview. The interview questions were mostly to check your strengths and how you answer certain question or why you believe certain things. Other then that, there ask you about your opinion on certain polices or recent events, like I was asked to give three positives and negatives of the union budget. So, you need to prepare thoroughly, if you're a fresher, then first few questions would be mostly on your academics and if have some work-ex, then most questions would on your roles and responsibly, achievements and stuff. So you need prepare accordingly and always introspects about your strengths and weaknesses and write it down.
