Remarks
I chose IIM Rohtak because - 1. It is one of the best new IIMs (second-gen IIMs) 2. The gender ratio caters to add diversity to the batch and as MBA is mostly about peer learning, it is important. 3. The proximity to Delhi provides added advantage in terms of exposure 4. The batch profile is pretty diverse. Some cons: 1. The college administration is not very supportive. 2. College's location is a little off i.e. right next to Sunaria Jail The admission process was a little flawed. The early registration process happened on June 2 for some students and there was no refund provided thereafter while all other IIMs update their lists in the second week of June.
Course Curriculum Overview
I opted for the Full-time 2-year PGP programme. The faculty-student ratio is 1:60. Most of the faculties are very well qualified with PhDs and most of them have published various research papers. There are some teachers who have just begun with their teaching career. The teaching method varies greatly. The efficiency obviously increases with the years of experience a faculty has. The exams were based entirely on what was discussed and taught in the class and hence class participation was an important aspect. Hence, for most of the classes, if one is going prepared for classes, clearing exams is an easy task.
Internships Opportunities
Several live projects are floated across the year. For the summer internship, various companies like OfBusiness, Tata Steel, IndusValleyPartners, etc visited the campus. The roles offered varied from Market Research, Business Development, Marketing intern, to financial analyst, business analyst, etc.
Placement Experience
Students can sit for college placements from the fourth semester itself. Several companies like Deloitte, Capgemini, OfBusiness, Indus Valley partners, etc. visit the campus for final placements. More than 200 offers are made every year in a batch of 240+ students. Profiles of Business Development, Investment Banking, Consultant, Marketing Manager, IT Service Manager, etc. are offered. The highest package offered was Rs. 24,00,000 and the average was nearly Rs.14,00,000. Close to 99% of the students get placed. I am going to start working full-time in the role of Business Development after finishing my MBA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The scholarship was only available for the SC and ST students. Campus placements depend a lot on corporate engagement and various other factors. The fees hike was done for every new batch i.e. around 10-15%. There were several companies that visited campus for summer placements and final placements. I did my summer internship with Tata Steel as a Sales and Marketing intern with a monthly stipend of Rs.40,000 for two months. The job I got from campus was in Collegedunia with a remuneration package of 16 lakhs per annum.
Campus Life
Clubs, committees and campus life are the best part about B-Schools. They are the culture drivers of a college. My college has a huge library with a good collection of books. The annual fest, Infusion, attracts a major footfall from colleges in and around Rohtak. It is a 3-day event which is conducted in the month of January every year. Classrooms are well equipped with projectors, chairs, tables, blackboard, whiteboard, etc. There are grounds for some of the major sports like basketball, football, badminton, etc.
Hostel Facilities
A small room with cupboard, table, bunk bed, washroom and almirah on a twin-sharing basis. Meals were mostly good, but on some days the quality was very bad. The facilities in the hostel were a little over satisfactory, the mess menu can we worked out better and a lot can be done for the quality of food provided.
Interview Experience
There was no group discussion for the admission process. There was a personal interview which was very comprehensive. It involved questions related to my CV, past educational background, hobbies and all about things I had done in my life till that day. There were some puzzles as well and in-depth questions about my hobbies, the sport I play and other things to know about how well I know about things I have been doing almost all my life. My preparation involved an in-depth study of the fields I was involved in and I was interested in. Also, I majorly worked on my confidence when I was talking about myself and the level of enthusiasm when I talked of things I love.
