Remarks
Nothing bad at all. Loved the 3 years of it. Enjoying my last year here.
Entrance Preview
I took the WBJEE exam in 2013. My rank was 17843 in general category. I wanted to study Computer Science & Engineering. The top choices in West Bengal are the Government Colleges, like Jadavpur University, BESU etc. Among the private colleges, the ordering is somewhat like IEM, Heritage Institute of Technology, and immediately after comes Academy of Technology. Word of mouth was that the stress on education was main in AOT, and since I got my seat allotted in the counselling procedure, I opted in this college.
Course Curriculum Overview
Academy of Technology follows the MAKAUT curriculum, so the course structure is similar to what you would normally see in other MAKAUT colleges. The electives are pre-decided as deemed best by the college authorities, and as per my own experience, it seemed like the correct choice to make. The college internals & assignments are taken very seriously and the faculty are quite strict with us to maintain the same.
Internships Opportunities
I am not aware of any internships provided by the college. We usually get to sit in the campus drives for jobs directly.
Placement Experience
Being a Computer Science & Engineering student, job opportunities were plenty for us. I was placed in the first company itself that came for recruitment, Persistent Systems Limited. Many other companies followed in the campus placement season like FusionCharts, Johnson Controls, ITC Infotech, TCS, MindTree, SAP, Oracle etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is pretty nominal in terms of recent trends in private institutions. The semester tuition fee is around 35,000 to 40,000 INR, depending on the semester. A yearly amount of Rs. 1000 is also to be paid towards ARCADIA, which is the annual cultural fest of the college.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
I personally have no scholarship/ loan in my name. The college provides scholarships under the TFW scheme as well as the internal college freeships. Education loan is also supported here.
Campus Life
Campus life is pretty awesome. Gender ratio is pretty good(except for the Mechanical Department. Occasional workshops are conducted on robotics, computer aided design and software(Android & Python workshops were conducted). Cultural diversity is present as we have friends from other states who have come to study here as well.
Hostel Facilities
Adequate hostel facilities are provided in the college. Both boys and girls on-campus hostel is present. The rooms are average sized, holding two students per room. Food is an issue as I've heard from the hostelers. Apart from the on-campus hostel, more than enough PGs and mess facilities are available in the surrounding area.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors were the heart of soul of all my data collection regarding the college and it's activities before I got enrolled here. They were pretty cool and patiently answered all my questions and gave me all the necessary information about the college, faculties, and other details. There is an online alumni network of the college as well on Alma Connect.
Exam Structure
The exam structure is pretty well laid out. We have two internal exams in the college before the actual board semester exam. The complete set of subject assignments are to submitted to the respective teachers before these internals. Along with the written papers, the lab internals are also conducted. So per semester, we have 2 sets of assignments, 2 sets of internal exams (theory and lab). Performance in these internals are directly proportional to the college internal marks for the student that is sent to the board.
Faculty
I am a student of the Computer Science & Engineering department, so I can only assess the faculty of my own department. Most of the college faculty as I experienced, were pretty well equipped to teach the students and control a class. The course material were pretty much taught in its entirety and very little parts(if any) were left for us to study by ourselves. The lab assistants were also adept in what they were supposed to do and could guide us properly in case we had trouble with anything.
