Remarks
Shaheed Bhagat Singh College is affiliated to the University of Delhi, which in itself is a huge brand name, the college is NAAC-A accredited. I had heard a lot about this college in terms of its academic environment, societies, collaboration program, etc. Personally, I wanted to pursue Mathematics(Hons) and wanted to pursue a degree in a well-reputed college where there is an academic environment. The only bad aspect of this college could be that it's not situated in DU campus so the campus vibes can be missed. Since the college is affiliated to DU so it follows admission on the cut-off basis, in my session the cutoffs began at 94.5% and dropped to around 92.5%, however, in this session the cutoffs saw a jump of around 2%, if someone has such percentages in class 12th then I guess this is the best one can get as the college enjoys a good repo throughout the university, for more information you can visit WWW.sbsc.in
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because mathematics can help provide a base of a variety of careers like Data Sciences, Actuarial Sciences, Research, risk analysis, etc. Hence providing a plethora of options for the future. SBSC provides an exact opportunity for one to pursue this as many webinars are conducted on various topics where teachers from top institutes come and share their experience. The college even hosted a National Mathematics Conference in early 2020, which saw upwards of 50 teachers sharing their researches in Hindi. There are around 45 students in a class. Most of the teachers hold a doctorate degree and have a teaching experience of over 25 years. Most of the teachers teach the text though some like Dr. Varinder Kumar and Mr. Sandeep have great subject knowledge and make classrooms fun. Term exams are held every 5 months and the exam paper is the same as in other University colleges. Exams are not very hard. A little sincerity is enough to clear the exam
Placement Experience
People in this college mostly opt for either civil services or higher education, so placement is not something that is on most of the student's minds. However, there is a placement, which helps students get placed. A few companies do come to conduct interviews and most of the students appearing in it get placed. The average package is around 5 lacs per annum, but most of the students who get placed are from Commerce background, but even maths students can get placed in say insurance companies. Personally, I would like to go for higher education as this bsc. The degree is going to act as a base for future
Fees and Financial Aid
Since SBSC is a public college thus it's pretty affordable the yearly fees for mathematics(Hons) are around Rs.7000 with an extra Rs.1200 yearly being charged for exams (2 exams in a year). Financial Aids are also available and are given on an interview basis. Through one's performance in the semester exam, one can be eligible for scholarships as well as for on-campus job theirs a placement cell that may help you find an internship
Campus Life
Every Society conducts its own fest and the fest conducted by the mathematics society is called "Ganitam". The fests are conducted in the month of February and various events take place during that time, our college is a sight to behold during the months of the fest. The college has a great Library which opens at around 9:30 in the morning and closes at around 4:30 in the evening. All course books and much more are available in the college one can issue up to 4 books for a period of 10 days, the books maybe re-issued post that. Various journals, newspapers, and competitive exam books(like CAT, IELTS JAM, etc.) act as icing on the cake classrooms are spacious, and are enough to accommodate a strength of 50. Though the college is not as big as colleges on the north campus but still has enough to keep everyone happy. Various Societies such as that of Dance, music, debate, etc. are also present in fact actor Siddharth Malhotra was picked from such societies. Sporting facilities are also present
