Remarks
The academics and operation of the instution is good and the social life in the campus is very nice. The employees in the administration office must be more helpful. Some of them are unbearable. The feedback process in the Institution must change. It is just taken for the sake of naac accreditation because there are no relevant changes after the feedback process.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is divided into 8 semesters and each semester has 7 papers at an average. The last semester is for school internship as the course profeesional motive is to be a teacher. Each paper has 4 exams in a semester. The 1st and 3rd test is of 25 marks and mid- term and end-term is of 40 and 60 marks respectively. The curriculum is groomed to provide skills required to be a TGT teacher. Few schools (VKV, and other private schools) come to recruit teachers for their schools i. e. on-campus placement. Placement opportunity is very less. No industrial visits as it is not the requirements of this particular course but the b tech students often go for such visits. Schools visits is what we do in our course curriculum.
Placement Experience
The campus placement is below average. The average package is around 3. 5lpa. Particularly in btech the placement opportunities are more. Internship provided by the university is limited i. e coding, ict, iot, and maths camps. It is good for the students if they look for internship outside the campus. Oil, Unilever, p&g are the top recruiters. The general procedure is general aptitude interview and group discussion. The placement ratio is very poor only 2 to 3 students can make it into the top companies. The placement percentage is around 40% and only of mba it is 90-93%. Yes there is a training and placement cell which conduct many sessions for campus placement.
College Events
The events are: Inscignis( science fest) Techxetra TUPL( cricket League) Arnaswat(literary fest) Astronomy events NSS drives The events are not that big but particularly inscignis has got good response in Assam. Techxetra used to be a good event with nice reach but for the past two years it has not taken place.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The programme fee for gen and obc students is same around 14-15k per semester and for sc/st student around 11-12k. Mode of payments: both online and offline. Online can be done through sbicollect, paytm and offline through challans. No there is no additional fee charged. Mess fees of hostel at an average is 1650 per month. Yes there is transparency in the fee break down and it is clearly mentioned in the fee reciept.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is scholarship (full fees waiver) for students of very poor background. They need to provide income certificate of their parents(if any) or bpl card will also do. There are other scholarship opportunities from ugc and other state authorities which the students can apply for.
Campus Life
The number of males are more for UG courses but for the PG courses the female number is more. Overall the gender ratio in the university is balanced. There are students from other states and other countries too. So clearly there is diversity in the campus. Hostel life is crazy, parties, night outs and hang out with your loved ones is a common sight. Workshops on various issues such as human rights and gender rights takes place. In fact there are elective courses on human rights and women rights. There are ethnic groups (mising, bodo, ahoms, kochs etc) who celebrate freshers and farewell party for their group members.
Hostel Facilities
Yes I have opted for hostel. I have a two seater room and I proudly can say that after IITG, our university hostels provides the best rooms, food and other stuffs in Assam (only govt. institutions). The hostel seats are enough to accommodate the students but in case if you want to stay in a PG, the rent will be around 4-5k per month. The mess fees is 1600 per month and hostel seat rent is 2000 per semester which is 1125 for sc and st students.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes most of the seniors are helpful, the only thing is that you need to interact with them. Alumni network is also good and they come and share their experience through some talk shows and seminars.
Admission
I got admission through an entrance exam. The entrance exam for my programme is based on class 11 and 12 maths entirely. The course is a profeesional course and of 4 years duration and I can save 1 year from the normal process, so I opted for the course. When I took admission in this university the nirf ranking of my university was 5. It is a central university of national importance and there were many other accolades received by the university which made me choose the university. The environment and cleanliness of the university is very good. These factors influenced me to choose this institution. Admission procedure: 1) Fill up the entrance form released in the month of February. 2) Appear for the exam which takes place in the month of May-June and there are centres all over Assam and the Metropolitan cities. 3) Merit list gets released in the first week of July. Phd students get admitted through the ugc net performance. For MBA and Phd students need to go through an interview process also. 4) If you are selected come for the counselling process in the institution. You have to pay the 1st semester fees in the counselling process. 5) Complete the counselling process and you are admitted.
Faculty
There are around 14-18 lecturers in our course combining from both the departments i. e education and maths. Average age is around 35-40 and all of them are well qualified and have done research in their concerned areas. But I feel that you can be well qualified and have lot of knowledge but teaching is a skill which everyone don't have and some of the lecturers lack. All the lecturers have minimum 5 years of experience in teaching the particular paper and most of the profeesors have clarity about the subject. The lecturers of my department don't have any relevant industrial experience but have published many research paper.
