Remarks
Firstly, I found the subjects that I wanted to pursue were being taught here. Secondly, I had researched on the faculty and found out that they were industry professionals. Hence, I felt it would be best learning from the experts who were still on the field because of the fact that media industry is a very dynamic industry. The primary reasons why I opted for this course in this college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is very dynamic to be precise. The curriculum is updated and the practical projects helped us have hands on experience on the different aspects of media and film making. Mentioning of the faculties, they are some of the best known people in media industry and we all have seen them and often see them on television. Our HoD is Mr. Kishore Bhimani and Mrs. Rita Bhimani, two of the most eminent personalities in the media industry.
Internships Opportunities
I had opted for an internship in vh1. It was an unpaid one.
Placement Experience
Companies like Aaj Tak, India Today, 24ghanta, TCS, Wipro visit the campus for placements. The media industry seeks journalists. However, the placement cell can be more active.
College Events
The college holds a fresher's event where all the departments participate together and is usually headlined by some of the best artists in the country. The media department also holds a mega fest based on films called 'Moviected' where students from other colleges also participate. In 2017, 'Moviected' saw participants sending films from Portugal. There are also tech fests in the engineering departments, which sees participants from colleges all over the city.
Campus Life
The campus has an entire film studio floor where mainstream films of the Bengali film industry are shot frequently. The studio is totally accessible to the media students and it contains separate infrastructure for video editing, recording studio, a dance studio and all the other facilities that are required in the media production industry. The campus also has separate libraries in each of the departmental buildings with a huge and enriched collection of educational books based on the courses.
