Anonymous's Review On Institute Of Hotel Management Catering And Nutrition - [IHM], Shimla

This is a reputed institute for hotel management in India which comes under central government. It ranked 7th in India for the hotel management degree. Also the placement in this institute is pretty good. Which makes it a very good choice.

The course is very good as hotel industry is one of the upcoming major industry in the country. The teacher faculty is also very good. They have also worked in the industry and have a lot of experience which they share with the students. Also a 4 month industrial training is included in the course, where we have to do training in a 5-star hotel. Some of my classmates also went foreign for industrial training.

I have opted internship in CROWNE PLAZA,ROHINI,NEW DELHI. I had 4 month of internship and got 2500 stipend per month.

The placements are pretty good. Mine batch got 80% placements. The companies which visited our institute is Radisson, Oberoi, Lemon tree, Tony Hilfiger, Taj, ITC, JW Marriott and some other companies. The placement procedure is different for different companies. The oberoi have 7 rounds of interview while Taj have 4 rounds of interview. Generally their will be 4 rounds of interview. The first round will be a group discussion round, the second is group interview round, third one will personal interview and last one will be a practical round for the job occupation. Their will be two type of placement in the hotel. One will job trainee and other is management trainee. The job traniee will become a manager in a 5-star property in 4-5 years while the management trainee will become manager in 2 years.

The campus life was pretty good. A fresher and farewell party is organised every year. Also cookery competition is organised every year in which other institutions students come to take part from North India and also our students visits the other institutions as well.

The infrastructure is also very good. The institute is situated away from the hustle of the city and is surrounded by the deodar forest which makes it a beautiful location for study. The institute has a library which have many books related to the course and industry. The labs are also well equipped with all necessary things.

I opted the hostel for one year. The infrastructure is normal but the food which is provided in the mess is of good quality as this is a hotel management institute. The hostel room is of two types, one is two seater and the other is 3 seater. The boys and girls have different hostels but they have same common room which makes gathering easy. Also the girls and boys have common mess but the timing is different. In hostel room you will be provided a bed, a study table, a cupboard and a chair. The hostet is situated inside the campus. Their is also generator facility provided in the hostel. As Shimla is a cold place, no fans are required. In winter, every year their will be snowfall.
