My college review (Gokhale Memorial Girls' College)

My college was amazing, I gained a lot of confidence, growth and development after being a part of this college. The teachers were also very hardworking teachers and the allover campus life was well in good.

The structure of the course was divided in 6 Semistars in three years. Labs were not required for us in B.A. Honours (English) the college taught us not just theoretically about English. But we were encouraged for practical experiences to contribute to College magazine, Wall magazines and read papers in class. there were also various options of subjects provided to choose from as a combination of two for elective subjects.

The placement or training opportunities were good in this college. Companies such as Tata Consultancy Services helped with providing training or job opportunities to students. The campus placements cell was very helpful to provide us with job. Many Other companies also visited for on campus placements such as Trust Klub, Imperial Research & Consultancy Services etc. I got selected as a Junior Research Analyst from A Research and Consultancy organization based in Kolkata which visited here in this college to recruit students.

The fees structure of my college was feasible for me but it was somehow expensive for the economically vulnerable students. The total three years of fees that we paid for the B.A (Hons) English was ? 81,420 this was however quite expensive for the students from poor backgrounds.

The college provided with scholarships to the students who were meritorious or to the students who were potential enough but were economically poor. And It also helped students with getting govt. Scholarships schemes.

The college was not only good accadamicly but was good in allover basis including the various extracurricular activities that use to take place every year in my college I remember various competions and events use to be conducted here every year in my college some of the events to promote allover extracurricular activities were Annual Sports, Inter-college Competitions, Annual College Competition etc. Use to take place through out the year on yearly basis.

My selection in this college was on the basis of my merit. The basic eligibility criteria for admission was to be qualified in 10+2 from a recognised board with not less then 100 marks in English and The minimum eligibility criteria for admission in B.A. Honours (English) was to score Not less than 70% marks in aggregate and 70% marks in English A or 80% marks in English B from West Bengal Board.

The faculty of my college was very well qualified and experienced faculty. They have done M.A, B.ed, M.Phil in English from valuable universities They were very helpful to me and all of other students. And use to teach us with great enthusiasm.
