Remarks

I would like to sum it up in my way. Academics are outstanding but teaching need improvements. We have the best curriculum but need improvement in infrastructure. We want the student to be all rounder, so we should take care of their basics well. Like good food must be ensured. Even after these odds we have a lot to explore. Its like a heaven for a person to discover himself.

Entrance Preview

I took JEE 2012 and got an AIR 1638. I wanted to get a course related to physics be it aerospace, mechanical or physics. I wanted to study physics but not a BS or MS in physics. So, engineering physics at IIT Delhi seemed a good option for me to study and explore the depth of physics and pursue my interest. It is a research oriented course and research seemed something like a bright prospect to me at that time. So, I opted for it.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course curriculum is diverse as mentioned in course curriculum. The courses here are focused on majorly semiconductor physics, thin films , nano technology, plasma science and quantum mechanics. But one cam say the physics department here is focused on applied physics more than theoretical physics. The courses are sometimes bit more informative than needed. i think there should be more practicality than just theory. But , still the faculty is one of the finest in the country for the courses they teach. The faculty is very knowledgeable and dedicated but have lack of proper teaching skills.

Internships Opportunities

For our physics department we have international internships offered from various universities all around the world. The countries we go include Canada, France, Germany, Austria , U.S.A. , Thailand, Japan etc. Most of the colleges offer full or partial funds for accommodation and foods. Many of us go to the ivy league colleges for internships and then further studies. For other departments we have all companies ranging from Google, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, Flipkart , Amazon etc. These companies offer stipend ranging from10k-30k per month for interns.

Placement Experience

4.5

Most of the 1000 students who sit for placements are placed. Package varies from 1 crore to 5 lakhs. The highest packages are for people from CS background and offered by companies such as Microsoft, Google, Facebook and Samsung. Then come the consulting giants like Bain and company, Parthenon, Mc Kinsey which offer around 15-30 lakhs. Now a days a lot of startup such as Ola, Flipkart, Grofers offer attractive packages for people from coding background as well as management positions. They offer packages ranging from 9-20 lakhs depending on candidates and positions. Apart from these there are lot of core technical companies such as Daikin(12-18 lakhs) , ITC (17 Lakhs) which offer good compensation. We also have companies like Goldman sachs(34 Lakh), Tower research(30 L), A.T. Kearney(18L), Kepler Canon(16L) , Parthenon( 28 L), AB Inbev(10L) , Grofers( 20 L), KPMG( 6L), Ernst&Young(8L).

College Events

4.5

Technical Fest - Tryst. It is one of the best technical fest which have competitions ranging from robotics to coding and hackathons.Management Fest - Department of management Studies , IIT Delhi host this management fest which have all events ranging from case studies to B-Plans with whooping prices.Cultural Fest - Rendezvous, the biggest cultural fest of North India invite a footfall of 50000 from around 350 colleges across country. The competitions include dance, dramatics, fashion, stage play. Many celebrities including artists from different nations together make it a huge success. This year we called Shankar, Ehsan and Loy. Last year Hoobastank rocked the fest.Sports Fest - Sportech, the sports fest of the college hosts various sports activities for about 100 colleges among various sports.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees are less as compared to other engineering colleges. I have to pay Just 30K for semester academics and 20K for food and hostel. This costs just 50K in a semester. But for the people taking new admissions from 2014 the admission fees increased to 50K which makes their total to 70 K per semester. Still its cheap from most of the colleges. Also we can get various scholarships based on merit for our academic fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes based on the income of your parents and All India rank we can get free academic fees scholarship. I am currently availing this. Other than these there are numerous small stipends or scholarships being offered by Alumni's of IIT's to department toppers or poor students . For category students with poor background free Messing is also provided. For any student of IIT banks are ready to give loans for interest rates as low as 8% p/a.

Campus Life

4

Campus life is awesome. We have all clubs for whatever you want to do. We have our Formula car making team-Axlr8R, The dance team -V-defyn, Dramatics, Hindi samiti, English Debate. You just figure out what you want to do or learn and just jump into it. You can paint, make cars , make robots etc. We also have a dedicated Entrepreneurship club, economics club. We have a blood donation network, a social innovation cell and National social service club. And whats the best part. All of these clubs are successfully run and maintained by students only.Gender ratio is bad. We have male to female ratio of 7:1. This puts some hindrance to socializing and dating. But, who cares we date with the girls of other colleges. We have yearly parties at hostel level, institute level, Department level. Apart from that we have social gatherings and celebrations under various clubs. And for sure we have a lot of intra-hostel parties. The people here are not only well educated but are aware and sensitive of all differences in ethnicity, sexual orientation. In IIT we havrstudents from Maharastra, Gujrat, North east, Haryana , people speaking haryanvi, punjabi, bengali , telugu and english . We always have friend groups formed of diverse people. We get a lot to learn from each others cultures and its fun.About the economic status half of the people are not from very well to do families. But, i have never seen a single instance where I or any of my friend had to feel differentiated due to his/her economic status. We are all just busy learning and enjoying , we do not get time to think on these petty issues.About the sexual orientation, people here are well aware of these things. To sensitize about the issue there has been many lectures and campaigns organised by our institute itself to respect the diversity in whatever aspect among all of us.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Hostel rooms are very old and less spacious. Mess food is not good and a very big problem for students. Fees are about 50k for academics and 20 k from mess+hostel each semester. It comes to a total of 1.5 lakh per year. The fees are not expensive. The academics are very well and upto mark. But the hostels and mess certainly need improvements. IIT Delhi has a shortage of space , so in first year 3 people live in a double room. In the second year even worse students have to adjust 2 people in a single room. There are PG's nearby with rent around 5k and messing 3k. But, most people prefer to stay in Campus to remain updated with the happenings inside campus. So, the adjust in the congested rooms. To tackle the food problem, we have food outlets and night messes open 24*7 all the time.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network of the college is more than awesome and supporting. Our Alumni include Raghuram Rajan(RBI Governer) , Sachin and Binny (Founders Flipkart) , Yogesh Chandar Deveshwar (Chairman ITC) , Chetan Bhagat(Indian Novelist). Apart from being a source of motivation these alumni are very keen to help us. They provide guidance and scholarships. They understand the students and ensure that we do not have any hindrance in our paths of success.I have met Vinod Khosla(Founder sun microsystems), Kunal Bahl(Co-founder Snapdeal). These people discussed their experiences and also offered their personal mails and contacts in case we need them. Its like we have a protective hand over our head.

Exam Structure

We have three main exams during the semester. Two minors and one major exam. Yes, it is very hectic and we have to work on our veins to cope with it. The classes and labs are five days a week. But, the work given during the weeks do not let us enjoy the weekends. We have to work hard everyday until the semester ends.Adding to this is the fierce competition in the campus . As our college comprise of the best and smartest minds of the country, there is cut-through competition in every domain be it academics or sports.

Faculty

3

Overall the faculty is highly qualified and dedicated. They are people who have done their post-graduate from various reputed universities including the ivy league colleges. They have numerous papers and patents in their names. They are excellent in their respective fields. But, the only place they don't perform well is keeping the interest of student in the class or we can say they lack the skill to deliver knowledge. They are expert in research but are not very nice teachers.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would say the course curriculum at DTU is quite relevant and comprehensive. The reason I chose this course was the mix of strong fundamentals in the first year—like Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Programming—followed by department-specific core and elective courses that allow some flexibility and specialization. The curriculum gives a solid foundation for both real-world applications and further studies, especially through hands-on projects and lab work. That said, some areas could be improved, like including more industry exposure, internships, and practical case studies to bridge theory and real-world problems. Exams happen twice a semester (mid-terms and end-terms) and include assignments and projects as part of evaluation. While most exams are manageable if you keep up with the coursework, a few subjects can be challenging, and preparation is key to avoid surprises.

Placement Experience:

The annual placements at NIT Delhi are consistently getting better year by year where the top branches such as CSE, ECE, and IT are leading the way with their strong placement rates. Many students get hired at very attractive salaries by well-established companies like TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Microsoft, and Amazon. For example, the CTC of the best offers have reached as high as ?15–20 LPA in some instances. The Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical branches also contribute to the university’s overall placement record to some extent. Those students usually boost the available opportunities for themselves by taking up internships and off-campus offers. Moreover, the students who fail to get a job on the campus can still benefit out of the college atmosphere where the strong basics of coding, projects, and practical skills are taught which makes the students quite employable at startups, off-campus, or even when going for higher studies like M.Tech/GATE/abroad. To sum up, NIT Delhi is a very solid foundation for the students whether they want to have a career or continue with their education.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is relevant and comprehensive, with practical modules and industry-focused content that influenced my choice. It effectively bridges academic knowledge with real-world applications. However, adding more case studies and interdisciplinary approaches could enhance learning. Exams are well-timed but could better assess critical thinking. Teaching methods would benefit from integrating more interactive and hands-on sessions.
