Remarks
It is an excellent place to spend your college life regardless of its few short comings.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is very good, the exam pattern is application oriented, making us bettter engineers, the professor community is research oriented and heavily involves students thus embodying a drive towards research. The student community focus a lot towards learning the industry specific skills thus the placement statics are very good.
Placement Experience
The placement statics is very good, companies like Google, Microsoft, Ola, Uber, McKenzie, De Shaw, Morgan Stanley, Apple, Adobe, JLR, Tata, and many more come for placement and many also come for internships. There is a Carrier development centre tasked to cooperate and invite the companies for placment, almost 60-70% students get placedevery year. There are seminars and other activities conducted to prepare students for placement.
College Events
There are many. Ksthij the techno-management fest of IIT Kharagpur is the biggest one in India, Spring fest is the cultural festival of IIT Kharagpur, then there is a Global Entrepreneurship Summit, conducted by the Ecell, then there are various departmental fests like samudra manthan, prakriti and many more. The participation in the first 3 is huge and from all over the India.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is a government institute, so depending on your family income, you have to different fees, and it is affordable but not very cheap. Yes the fees structure is very transparent. And no additional donations are required to get into college, the entrance exam is the only way to get into the college. Also if your income is less than 1lpa then there is no tution fee for you. There is a MCM scholarship. And also easily accessible student loan.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is a option of means cum merit scholarship, there are many other scholarships available and one has to be on the lookout for them, information is available on internal notice board and the erp system, mails are also ssent regarding the same. We can apply for educational loan in the campus vrach of State bank of India, the procedure is very simple for that.
Campus Life
Expect for the gender ratio the campus like is great, the hender ratio was around 7:1, the work culture is very good thecampus is free to roam 24/7. No restrictions. There are a large number of clubs, cells, societies in the campus for almost all the purposes varying from robotics to debating to dancing to eastern and western music. The sports facilities are very good. The diversity of campus id the same. As diversity of India, the economic status of the students vary from rich to poor but that does not keep you from doing anything in the campus. Yes as everywhere else there is some politics, the hostels and mess are student run and so they have Student Representatives, nso that is natural but I gener it does not affect your life much, the bonding between hall mates is that of brothers, we are a huge family, living eating, playing and growing together.
Hostel Facilities
Yes, all the students get a seat in halls (hostels are called halls, we have hall culture). The conditions of the hostel rooms are not so great but anyway it does not matter, the culture of the halls is the things that you need. The mess facility is present and the food is healthy if not tasty.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors are your gods, they teach you a lot in halls and in societies and clubs they tech you more than your professors they tell what to learn, what to do. Once you become a KGPian you get attached to that notion and this attachment stays with your life, there are many seniors and alumns that have guided me ir are still doing it. And I am very thankful to them.
Admission
I did a coaching for 2 years for the entrance exam JEE along with 11th and 12th. If you want to be a very good engineer you need to choose the best college for you, so I chose the best possible one for me. Firstly you need to give JEE mains exam once you clar it you are eligible for JEE advance, you need to be in top 10000 in the country to get slected into these colleges.
Faculty
The quality varies from excellent to good depending on the professor. The no of lectures per course is around 40-50. The course framework as such directly does not involve any industry experience or certifications but the projects are usually industry based and thus give us a very good exposure.
