Course Curriculum Overview
Absolutely. The courses are designed in such a way that makes one job ready. The internals make 60% of the exam structure. And the term end exams are majorly case based. Specifically the courses on Industrial Marketing and Business Analytics are the must take subjects for a MBA graduate.
Placement Experience
There are two seasons for placements, one is for summer and the other is for finals. Generally all interviews include CV shortlisting then GD and finally PI. Goldman Sachs, Reliance, Bain, Deloitte, etc. visit the campus. And overall all the students get placed.
College Events
The best part of IIM Shillong is the Golf Cup. Yes it's very rare to have a golf tournament in an Indian context. But that's what nice about being having a college in Shillong. It's a huge event with magnanimous participants joining in from various parts. Also the college hosts management competition both for external and internal participants all the year long.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is quite transparent. And being an IIM it's somewhat lesser than its peers. There's no additional charges that had to be paid in order to secure an admission in the college. The college accepts debit/credit cards, net banking, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
Taking loan for fees payment is too easy here. There's no collateral and no assurance signature from parents/guardian is required.
Campus Life
Campus Life is very good because of the wonderful weather. Gender ratio is around 55:45 with a very diverse background of people in each batch. The people in the college are quite progressive and pretty smart about their choices. Seniors from the onset of our journey guide us with their own quirky ways which sets the tone of the new batch.
Hostel Facilities
Yes. The college is a fully residential one. And one gets their room based on lottery system. In my time in college we were asked to be in twin sharing basis for the first year and then have a single room in the second year.
Alumni/Alumna
The recruitment process more often than not involves our alumni. Hence when we get introduced through them it kind of helps a lot in easing the pressure.
Admission
I have stated the factors in order of my judgement criteria priority. Although there are some other factors such as hostel facility and library infrastructure, but I didn't consider them while evaluating for the college.
Faculty
Generally a course takes 20 sessions to complete. Each session is 90mins. These sessions are either taken by a single faculty or a group of 2-3 faculties for a single course depending on the course requirement. For example Corporate Finance was taught by the former Risk Head of IDBI Bank.
