Remarks

Overall I say that this is one of the best places to study engineering in Kerala both academically and co curricular wise. Just a plethora of events and activities await you here so don't miss the opportunity to come here if you get one.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The curriculum followed is issued by the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University or KTU. It follows strict guidelines with two internals exams and assignments for each subject in a semester apart from the end sem exams. The curriculum is based to provide you with industrial knowledge as well as theoretical backup. Labs form an important part of the course and students are provided with opportunities for industrial visits. Class hours consist of 6 hours a day with a one hour lunch break in between ( 9 AM to 4PM). Apart from this talks held by renowned personalities in their fields are frequently held and placement training classes meticulously followed.

Placement Experience

5

Campus placement are one of the most attractive features of my college. For my course giants like BPCL, Reliance, MRF, WIPRO and other famous companies visit every year. The recruitment process generally included interviews group discussions and an analysis of your performance in college both academically and co curricular wise. The college is proud to claim almost 75% placement every year. The institution frequently holds placement training talks with experts and compulsory placement training classes during 3rd year.

College Events

5

The college is most well known for its national level multifest known as 'Dyuthi'. The college also plays host to University programs and techfests and is generally considered as the hub of technical and cultural activities if they University. The footfall of Dyuthi was around 10k last year and world renowned artists like Nucleya, AGAM, LAGORI and DJ Mari Ferrari have performed here in the last couple of years. The college union also holds cultural and sporting events every month making college life the most enjoyable experience of your lifetime.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The semester fees vary slightly due to the variety of subjects offered in the course but is generally very feasible considering the facilities provided. Being a govt college comes with it's perks and the semester fees along with the examination fees comes at around a maximum of Rs. 7000 for the general category students. Allotment fees is initially paid to the government which comes at around Rs. 8225. The college provided complete transparency in the fee structure and provides huge incentives for students with reservation.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college keeps us updated about scholarship opportunities and internships throughout the course. I personally have availed the national scholarship scheme though which I was able to get RS. 10000 annually and I was also selected for the AICTE Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme. The college office has a separate section for clearing doubts in scholarships and in helping students avail them. Main eligibility criteria are entrance rank, family income etc.

Campus Life

4

The college life here is just absolutely amazing and is jam-packed with action fun and frolick throughout the year. The college has a gender ratio of almost unity. Workshops are conducted on various fields almost every month and departments host technical cultural and sporting activities throughout the year. College union hosts programs like fresher's day, onam, Kerala day and Christmas celebrations, national levelmulti level fests like dyuthi and union athletic meets along with cultural nights and raves. The college follows a strict anti ragging policy and it is a frequent sight to see first years and seniors walking around with arms on their shoulders. The college has also students from other states and even they call this place home due to the immense hospitality. There are a whole variety of technical and cultural clubs like IEEE, IEDC which even provide opportunities at international level. The main highlight of the college is that everyone is treated equally here and the environment is so peaceful. There are no discriminations Even talked about. Politics form a major factor in college but a healthey competition generally brews, with opposing party students holding friendships higher than politics.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The college has both a men's and a women's hostel. The men's hostel has 5 blocks with a separate block for first years. The women's hostel has 3 blocks with a special reservation block. Hostel rooms are adequately clean and a large number of common toilets are there in every floor. The hostel allotment puts 3 students in a room based on their entrance rank and the distance of their residence from the college. There are recreational areas of plenty inside the hostel as the hostels are within the campus itself. All in all a picturesque nostalgic touch is embedded in both the men's and ladies hostels. There are a whole lot of private hostels too just outside college, with fee structure ranging from 2000 to 8000 monthly depending upon the level of facilities. Most hostels come with an attached mess too.

Alumni/Alumna

This college has one of the most decorated alumni network, with people in the highest positions of power. They frequently visit college and hold talks with us encouraging us to pursue our dreams. They are the main reason for the setting up of different programs within our college. And the seniors are just another level of chill. They treat you as their own brothers and sisters from the moment you step into the campus due to the highly efficient anti ragging policy. Really the role that seniors play in making my college life this enjoyable is beyond my description. You just have to come here and enjoy it for yourself.

Admission

The main step in the admission procedure is passing the Kerala entrance examination, KEAM. 12th standard marks along with your KEAM score is considered during allotment and rank determination. I opted for chemical engineering here as it is widely regarded as the best college to study this course in Kerala. Also my interested towards chemistry made me choose this course. Once you've been allotted your rank you can apply to colleges from the KEAM web portal and there are 4 rounds of allotment in which after the second round you have to pay the allotment fees if you have been allotted a college. You can either fix the course at this stage or move on if you have given higher options. Further admission processes are done at the college itself.

Faculty

4.5

There are about 20-25 lecturers in my department alone and the whole college has about 250 lecturers. Most of them are professors/ asst. Professors in various fields and hold remarkable expertise in both theoretical and industrial knowledge. They cater to the students well and nurture a culture of curiosity. The average for of teachers is roughly around 45 years. A lot of them are graduates from renowned colleges likes IITs while in my department alone most teachers have industrial experience.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is the worst. Teachers rush through the portions so that they can finish at the earliest. It may be because the university has a unjustifiable timetable. There is very little practicals given. The ones that are given are just for namesake.

The students usually start appearing for campus placements in their 6th semester. The training for the campus placements is started for all the students from the 4th semester. Many companies visited for campus placements. But one main problem is that most of them were low packages. Around 4LPA. Some were between 4-6 and a very few between 6-10. Most of them got placed in our batch in some company.
