Remarks

Good remark is that it is a wonderful college anyone would love to study at. Bad remark is that if you have practiced getting subjects spoon fed, you will find it hard at first to cope because to be in a standard college, even we have to rise to the standard. Here there will be no spoon feeding of subjects. We gotta work hard too.About the management, they work good only. Not much of issues. and even if any issue arises, the college students union is there to help.

Entrance Preview

The entrance exam to enter the engineering colleges in Kerala is KEAM entrance examination. I got a rank of 514 in it which is a great score and hence got the admission in my college, which is pretty difficult. I had also gotten admission in NITs for B.Arch however i wasn't much interested in architecture - simply wrote the exam for fun.

Internships Opportunities

Internship was not really encouraged during my year in my department. Projects were done by students themselves without any help from the external sources. However there were scholarships which funded the project work and for most of them the expense for the project work was nil.

Placement Experience

4

Being an ECE student I have knowledge only about opportunities which were available for my branch. Mainly IT companies came during my year, And the important ones were TCS and Wipro, TCS - selected around 137 students including all branches and they offered an annual package of around 3.4 Lakhs.

College Events

5

The college is active in terms of cultural as well as technical events. The main event in the college is 'Dyuthi'. Events belonging to various respects (technical, cultural, managerial and many more) are conducted. And various branches conduct their own events during Dyuthi thus making it a huge event. Students from any college can participate in the events.

Fee Structure And Facilities

We had to pay only an amount of 6000 per year plus some money for the PTA fund which wasn't much. College buses are all free and run all over the district .

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships are available for all SC/ST students as well as for the students who have scored good marks in plus two examination. Many of my friends had to pay nothing to study in my college.

Campus Life

5

We get a lot of workshops. GEC Thrissur plays an important part in IEEE and we have hosted annual IEEE conventions many times. There is no kind of discrimination in our college. Each and every student is treated equally by everyone. We have students from other states (Manipur, Andaman and Nicobar islands etc) and they too aren't seen with a different eye. There is no issue of ragging at all in the college. And about religion - none of us care which religion the other person is and every person is seen with respect and respect alone. It's a peaceful environment as a whole.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostel facilities are not bad however they are not good too. Since it is a government college, hostel fees and food charges are minimal. Rooms in hostels are available only for students whose houses are far from the district. More the distance, more the chances of getting admission into the hostels. There are paying guest facilities as well as other private girls/boys hostels in the neighbourhood so nothing to worry. I was a day scholar and hence not much info about the fee structure of private hostels.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network has been getting stronger. Funds have been provided by them for various purposes including the events that we conducted. Since it is a government college, the painting works, cleaning works etc do not take place that often however alumni have provided funds to the students so that we did the cleaning and painting works. Also Alumni have been helping to bring more and more companies into the college .

Exam Structure

Studying in GEC is heaven because you are not at all tensed or stressed during exams. Maybe for the main exams at the end of each semester one is tensed because the schedule is given by calicut university and not by the college and the university tends to give less study leaves in between each exam. In a semester we have two internal examinations. And from these an average mark is given out of 30 of which 22 is the pass mark. The university exams are all out of 70 marks and we need to score 50 marks atleast as a whole(internal plus external) to pass the exams. However we are always stress free.

Faculty

5

The best feature about the college is the faculty. Everyone has grip on each and every subject. And since it is a government college, getting in as a faculty happens only if you are really talented and hence there are no questions about their quality of teaching.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is the worst. Teachers rush through the portions so that they can finish at the earliest. It may be because the university has a unjustifiable timetable. There is very little practicals given. The ones that are given are just for namesake.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is under KTU syllubus do it's fine. There is a change in curriculum coming 2024 which i assume would make a lot of good changes. The curriculum gives you a head start For most of your work, you need to on your own but the faculty is there to help. The frequency of exams is weekly tests + monthly exams. Its not too difficult of an exam.

Currently placements are bit low, due to inflation, but compared to other colleges like KMEA, etc we have better placements similar to Muthoot and all. Placement Experience:

The students usually start appearing for campus placements in their 6th semester. The training for the campus placements is started for all the students from the 4th semester. Many companies visited for campus placements. But one main problem is that most of them were low packages. Around 4LPA. Some were between 4-6 and a very few between 6-10. Most of them got placed in our batch in some company.
