Remarks

The academic and the curriculum is overall excellent. The placement is also okay. However, the infrastructure and the campus can be far better. The funds from the state government aren't being utilized properly.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is up to date according to the AICTE norms. All the required subjects and laboratories are present. The exam structure consists of an semester end examination and regular internal assessments. Also the examination cell is quite strict unlike the private colleges.

Placement Experience

4

The placements and job opportunities are quite decent. Many PSUs, MNCs, etc. visit for campus interview selection. The Training and Placement celm play a vital role in providing internships and various trainings. I'll be an Intern in the upcoming semester because internships aren't allowed in lower semesters.

College Events

4

There are a lot of events celebrated in JEC. They are namely Republic day, Sarawasti Puja, Vishwakarma Puja, Independence day etc. Apart from local festivals, there's another Annual Techno cultural event which is the biggest festival of Assam, Phoneix. Thousands of people come visit the festival every year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is negligible. Since it's a government college, the fees is hardly 4000 per semester. The hostel charges are 8000 per year, approximately. Examination fees for every semester is roughly 1500. The fees structure is feasible for me.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are various scholarships one can avail during the course of study. Examples include Ishan Uday, Chief minister's Scholarship, etc. Students of economically backward classes have availed these which proved very helpful to them.

Campus Life

4

The labs are pretty good, they have all the required instruments and machines. Extracurricular activities is what that lags in any state government college. However the college celebrates annual college week where all the students get a chance to showcase their talents.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni of JEC are working on various fields of Assam and abroad, in various respectable posts. The regularly come and visit the students to motivate them. The seniors are helpful as well. They provide us juniors their books, notes, etc.

Admission

For Jorhat Engineering College Admission test, candidates successfully crack the CEE (Common Entrance Examination) or Lateral Entrance Examination held by DTE, Assam. Age of candidates must be between 17 to 21 years till August 2019. Upper Age relaxation for SC and ST is 22 years.

Faculty

4

The faculty is well experienced and highly qualified. Most of them are graduated from JEC itself, while others are from IITs, NITs, etc. The faculty is quite helpful create a great teaching learning process inside the classroom.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not really good in our college, it is more of a research institute so it mainly focuses on PhD as PhD strength is good. Higher education is more prefered here but placement scenario is also good

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very relevant and is different for different branches according to their needs. I was interested in civil engineering and chose the course and find the curriculum intersting and relevant for me . The curriculum offers subject which are important for real world applications, like in civil engineering it's offers subjects like building construction, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, material testing, serving, etc. The course curriculum is very good but the teaching methods needs improvement like more digitalization . The exams frequency and timings are neither too late nor too early, they are perfectly planned and executed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There exists a good teaching staff that's why the course is very easy to understand also teachers give us good examples also do practicals so that's students understand the course easily . I see that there exist a low no of equipments in practical lab compare to it's students ratio so if they have a good no of equipments then all students get equipment to do experiment without any waste of time . Time is good as compare to marks and the first 30 marks are beginner level the other 40 marks are intermediate level and the remaining 30 Marks are advanced level questions in a question paper for the students they published.

So, in Whole northeast Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology is the no 1 and the oldest private engineering college and I decided to take admission there.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario is quite good, with several reputed companies like General Electric, Power Grid Corporation of India, Goldman Sachs, among others recruiting 94 percent of the students in the college. The placement takes place in three rounds, one testing one's aptitude, followed by an hour round, finally leading on to a technical round. Mock interview and job cracking sessions are organized regularly, both by the departments, and also the Training and Placement Cell, to prepare students for the interviews and examinations going forward. The Training and Placement Cell also provides internship opportunities at the end of third year for the students, based on their aptitude and abilities

Remarks:

I have mostly positive remarks about college except for the fact that the college is situated really far from mainstream north India. Train connectivity is not that strong to rest of country. But despite that the college is extremely good in the sense of learning, meeting new innovative minds, and of course placements and jobs.
