Remarks
I think the overall management for an open university is difficult as there are many courses. But they have steady management in place.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is updated often. It is decided as per the norms of UGC. As an English student, I could electives as per my liking. The entire course is broken into semesters following the 1+1+1 scheme. Exams happen twice a year depending on the time of admission. I had opted for the January one.
Placement Experience
Placements are occasional, but most students are already employees. There is a vast scope for internships and further study.
College Events
There is a convocation ceremony at the end of three years. There are other government programs held throughout the year. They also have an official radio program each week. The convocation ceremony for me was special. Then there is eGyankosh that helps students digitally.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure at the University is very pocket-friendly and I could pay my fees via debit card. I also had to pay an exam fee for the yearly exam. It does give a detailed report on how the fees are distributed. I don't have to pay any additional fees since there is a yearly fee.
Fees and Financial Aid
I didn't require a scholarship as it was quite affordable. But there are tuition waivers for poor and backward caste students.
Campus Life
The diversity factor is the best thing here. There are students from all walks and ages. My classes were held at St.Xavier's college, so the campus was sprawling. There was the availability of labs, basketball court, and auditorium. That apart we had debates in class.
Alumni/Alumna
I actually came to know about the university from an alumnus. They are very helpful. There are events organized by the alumni.
Admission
I was always inclined towards Arts but then took up Science in 12th. Eventually came to learn about IGNOU and how it was providing quality education to all. Since it is an open university, the location and choice of the program were hassle-free. I paid the registration fees and then applied online. Within a week I got a notification for my books from the nearest warehouse.
Faculty
Since I wasn't a regular student. Our classes were usually held on weekends. My faculty was extremely cooperative as many of my fellow classmates also worked alongside the course opted. They tried to make the classroom interactive and the lessons comprehensive.
