Course Curriculum Overview

4

The college offers a three years Honours course in Science and Arts, which is standard in most colleges/universities. Under the latest Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), these three years have been divided into six semesters. The course curriculum comprises of three main components: Core course, Elective course and Ability Enhancement course. While the Core course syllabus targets the learning of Mathematics, the Elective course and Ability Enhancement course syllabi make sure that students receive exposure to broader knowledge and develop necessary skills.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is pretty feasible. Students of Mathematics department are required to pay an amount of four thousand approximately per semester (total fee: 21 K approx.) , which includes the tuition fee, examination fee, library charges, medical deposits, etc. The fee structure varies from department to department.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college offers several scholarships and financial aids. Scholarship schemes are categorically divided as Award Fund- I, Award Fund- II, Jadunath Chaudhury Utsaha Dan Tahabil and Dr. Sukanta Ganguly Memorial Award, for students of different faculties. Financial assistance is provided to meritorious students who are economically challenged by the Student’s Aid Fund. Deserving students are given Free-studentship.

Campus Life

4

Our college provides all-round support for students. The central library, along with the departmental libraries, holds an extensive collection of books and papers that the students can avail to support their educational experience and enhance their knowledge beyond class notes. The students are also provided with internet support, to keep themselves updated with the latest information in the academic spheres. Lab facilities are excellent in all the respective departments. Students actively take part in various social events like debates, games, cultural competitions, etc. The freedom to express one's artistic talents helps to build ones nature as a whole.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel services are good, if not outstanding. The hostel is guarded 24 hours by security and has proper regulations to maintain the safety of the women residing inside. The hostel building is located inside the college campus, which makes it more guarded in nature. The students are charges extra hostel fee which is feasible as well, which allows students from remote areas of the district to be able to continue studying without any difficulties.

Admission

I had visited the college website where the online form fill up process was being conducted for Undergraduate courses. According to the requirement of Burdwan University, the cut-off aggregate was 45% and pass mark in the subject being applied for was compulsory (along with an additional subject in few cases). As I was applying for Mathematics, I needed a pass mark in Mathematics only. In order to submit the form, I had to make a payment online, following which I had been provided with an application number for future reference. The merit list was published online as well, and I was selected in the first phase of the admission process as I had good merits. After the publication of merit lists, the admission fee payment link was provided on the same website. Following a successful payment, I received a bank challan. The date of admission was announced, which was the first physical interaction during the entire process. Selected students were required to carry documents such as class 10 and 10+2 mark sheets, government ID proof, bank challan, etc, and were enrolled in the college.

Faculty

4

The faculty of the college, in general, is good indeed. The faculty of the Department of Mathematics, in particular, could be expanded. Currently, the handful of professors and guest lecturer have either completed their PhD or MSc and are carrying out the job as efficiently as they can. They have always been very supportive and have catered to the needs of students.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
